Last night, News 12 broke the news that Barnes & Noble's Bay Plaza location will be closing this year. Just like that, our budding Lit. Bar went from the only independent bookstore in the Bronx to the ONLY bookstore in the Bronx--home to 1.4 million people and 10 colleges.
With the Bronx soon to be the only borough in the city without a bookshop, cries of disappointment have erupted via social media and publications such as Welcome to The Bronx have called their followings to support The Lit. Bar with a greater sense of urgency. We need your help to step up for our literary community.

Now is the time to get involved with #thebronxreads movement by...
- Partnering with me (financial investment not required). I’m on the market for a founding bookstore manager to assist in almost every aspect of store operations. There’s so much value in having this person be a part of the start-up journey. My ideal other-half has significant bookstore experience, a handle on social media, a love of the Bronx, and an entrepreneurial spirit (and stomach). A plus if you're more excited about Harry Potter and YA than I am.
- Donating Contributor Rewards. Our crowdfunding campaign is tentatively set to launch mid-January. We're scouting products to incentivize contributions including: new books; and reader, wine, and Bronx-related gift items. Crafts and other perks are welcome.
- Being Creative! There's so much talent in the Bronx. If there's an alternative way you'd like to get involved in the start-up phase, I'd love to hear your ideas!
