O'Neil Hall

The move is complete!

Thanks to the hard work of our Facilities Management team, staff have moved to new spaces in the renovated and newly-named O'Neil Hall (a.k.a. the Rugby Road Office Building). The Board of Visitors approved the naming of the building in honor of Robert M. (Bob) O'Neil, who served as the sixth President of the University from 1985 to 1990 and is both a Professor of Law Emeritus and a University Professor Emeritus. Facilities Management staff oversaw all aspects of the renovation and furnishing of the building, dealing with challenges of renovating a building that is nearing a century old while maintaining its character. Originally conceived as a clubhouse for visiting student athletes, construction began in 1915 and was halted during World War I. In 1922, the abandoned foundation was used as the substructure to support a faculty apartment building that remained in use for more than 80 years. Prior to this summer, most of the building had been unoccupied since 2003. The University was able to relocate administrative offices from other locations and bring several groups together under one roof by restoring this unused asset. Because several administrative offices moved from Madison Hall to O'Neil Hall, space became available in Madison Hall for administrators who moved out of the Rotunda. Space that was used for administrative offices prior to the Rotunda renovation will become additional student programming space when construction there is complete. Additionally, conference rooms on the lower level of O'Neil Hall will be available to student groups outside of normal business hours. These restorations and office relocations result in an increase in space available to students in two locations.

Special thanks to Mark Stanis, James Zehmer, Steve Ratliff, and Joanne Im for the care they took throughout the O'Neil Hall renovation and for their work to meet the needs of the building's new occupants.

Offices housed in the building include:
  • Office of the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (1st floor)
  • Office of the Vice President for Management and Budget (1st floor)
  • Office of the Associate Vice President for Finance (1st floor)
  • Strategic Initiatives (1st floor)
  • Assistant Vice President for Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management (2nd floor)
  • Assistant Vice President for Clery Compliance (2nd floor)
  • Organizational Excellence (2nd floor)
  • Policy Manager (2nd floor)
  • Institutional Assessment and Studies (2nd floor)
  • University Budget Office (3rd floor)
  • Treasury Management (3rd floor)
  • Facilities Management Arts Precinct Offices (lower level)
Stay tuned for information about an open house after building occupants are settled in!
