We enter this year’s untraditional holiday season, still struggling to cope with the mind-numbing Covid-19 restrictions. Thanksgiving for many of us will be without family and friends gathering to celebrate our local history. Going into 2021, we will continue to meet via Zoom, social media, and small project-based groups.
GHA Annual Meeting – Saturday, Nov 21st, 2-4 pm via Zoom
All members, including seasonal residents, are encouraged to participate in our upcoming annual meeting. A Zoom link and agenda will be sent out on November 20th. The Board approved the following motion be brought to our November 21, Annual Meeting. Because we will be meeting remotely you will be receiving an email from ‘Survey Monkey’ asking you to vote on the following motion, the results to be announced at the meeting.
- MOTION (by Michael R.): “I move, that the Guild of Harwich Artists raise our annual dues, as recommended by the Board, the amount of $5, resulting in $35 for Artists and $25 for Associates, effective Nov 22, 2020.”
Our November demonstration artist is Jay Tichenor, a new member, who will lead an interactive session where participants will paint along with Jay. He will demonstrate his quick ‘travel sketches’ done en plein air using simple ink and wash techniques. Regardless of your preferred painting medium, you will find Jay’s approach liberating and inspiring.
Annual Holiday Ornament Sale
Member painted ornaments continue to arrive at the Gallery as they are completed. Thanks to many member contributors we have received about half of our goal of 100 ornaments. Popular ornaments seem to be Cape scenes such as lighthouses, shorelines, and boats, especially with holiday themes. More painted canvases are needed at this time to replenish inventories. Proceeds of this year’s ornaments sale will be shared with the Children’s Center in Harwich Port, a part of Harwich Ecumenical Council for the Homeless. More information about the Center is found on their website: www.hech.org/childrens-center.
You can pick up primed canvas frames (3x4 & 3x3) and pre-cut watercolor paper at the Art Gallery, now open on weekends through December 13th (10 am-4 pm), and on Black Friday. You can also pick up supplies at the Thursdays Open Painting Session (1-3:30 pm) in the Harwich Community Center, Activity Room 3. Lastly, supplies can be dropped off and picked up at your front door by emailing your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. Your contribution is much needed and appreciated.
Thanks to the many of you who are contributing in so many big and small ways that, when combined, are allowing us to fulfill our mission of “art and community”; despite the many challenges before us. I hope to “see” all of you at our Nov 21st Annual Meeting. Until then, stay safe and positive.
