Dear Alumni,
It is truly an honor to join this incredibly dynamic and accomplished law school community. I am thrilled to serve SMU Dedman School of Law as its tenth dean.
We appreciate Professor Tom Mayo's outstanding leadership as dean ad interim. Over the summer, the law school embarked on a “Texas Tour,” where alumni from five local chapters gathered at receptions to reconnect and network in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. We look forward to connecting with more alumni this fall.
Last week, we welcomed our first-year students and our returning law students back to campus. The Class of 2025 is an exceptionally talented, academically gifted, diverse, and philanthropic group. We have students from 84 different colleges and universities across 36 states. Our students represent a variety of different career paths – engineers, accountants, teachers, and service members in the Army, Air Force, and Marines. This year’s class includes a professional soccer player, a professional dancer and Radio City Rockette, a therapy horse riding instructor, a stand-up comic, and filmmaker. They’ve interned everywhere from the United Nations and the White House to the Texas PGA. They have volunteered at AmeriCorps, the Arthritis Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs, Habitat for Humanity, CitySquare, the Special Olympics, and many more. I have met with them, and they are thrilled to join our community. We are extremely proud of our new students and look forward to introducing them to the Mustang Bar Law Alumni Association in the future.
Thank you so much to all of you who are already serving as Mustang Exchange Mentors, Community Fellows, adjunct professors, Executive Board members, Emerging Leader Board members, and as other resources to mentor and employ our students. We truly appreciate all you do for SMU Law.
Our alumni are our greatest assets. We are honored to support, celebrate, and connect with you. I look forward to meeting you soon. I am honored to work with you to help the law school reach its full potential.
With my deepest gratitude,
Jason P. Nance
