Gearing Up for Elections!

With elections less than three weeks away, this week we are highlighting some of the incredible work being done by our faculty members, sharing upcoming events, and providing resources for civic engagement. 
Faculty Spotlight

Jon Winet - Oxford at the Ballot Box 

"University of Mississippi Voter Roundtable Members, Andrew Goodman Fellows and Voting Ambassadors, with Oxford to the Ballot Box participation, were dynamically active and engaged during #NVRD and #NVEW. Below are some team pictures. We are most proud of our community effort and the leadership of UM's terrific students."
National Voter Registration Day 2021

National Voter Education Week
On Tuesday, October 5 headed to the Oxford Community Market. The market posted this team picture on its  IG 
“This week is National Voter Education Week! The Andrew Goodman Foundation and Voting Ambassadors at UM are here to help you get registered or answer any questions you may have.” [l-r: Student leaders Caroline Leonard, Libby Foley, Katelyn Winstead, and Austin Conner.]
Jay Lee, Andrew Goodman Fellow [foreground] joined a spirited group by UM's legendary "Grove" for an on-campus student voter registration effort on Thursday, October 8. Over the course of a busy, ambassadors, AGF Fellows and Roundtable members encouraged registration and civic engagement.

Vote Early Day - October 23
  • Most voters can cast their ballot prior to Election Day.Vote Early Day makes that process easier by helping all eligible voters understand their voting options while celebrating the act of voting early.

"The Power of Black Women Student Voters" - The Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute & The Institute for Democracy & Higher Education (IDHE) team up to examine the voting habits of Black women college students and amplify the essential role they played in the past few elections 

"Where the Rubber Meets the Road: How Virginia and New Jersey Are Putting Recent Voting Law Changes into Effect" Virginia and New Jersey both have statewide elections on November 2, 2021 – outliers among the states – with state legislators, the governor, and other statewide offices all on the ballot. Early voting in Virginia is already underway. This article analyzes how the consequential voting law changes in these two states will shape their upcoming elections.
