Announcement from Pastor Dustin
GABCS Church Family,
Today, at the end of the worship service, I shared some bittersweet news. Over the past four months, God has been confirming to Melody and me that he is leading us to a new place of ministry. And so, next Sunday, January 17th, I will be preaching in view of a call to become the senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Round Rock, TX. Assuming they confirm the call, my final Sunday at Green Acres South will be January 31st.
I know this comes as a shock to most of you, and is painful to hear. It is equally painful for myself, and Melody and the kids. One thing a pastor holds in his heart, from the day he accepts the call to pastor a group of strangers, is the knowledge that eventually a day will come where he will have to stand before that same group, no longer strangers, but now family, and tell them his time with them is coming to an end.
But, the reality is that leadership is a stewardship. No matter how wonderful it may be, every position of leadership is a temporary assignment. Our responsibility is to be faithful with what God has given us, to lead well, and to prepare those we lead for the inevitable arrival of the next leader. My hope and prayer is that I have been faithful in my time at GABC South, and that I leave the church in a position to thrive as you await the arrival of your new pastor.
I want you to know that I love you all. You are no longer strangers and you’re not simply church members. You are family. You have supported me and my family during difficult times, and have celebrated with us as well. It has been my highest privilege and honor to walk beside you in your valleys and mountains. You mean more to me than I can fully express, and I will miss you deeply. My hope is that, even though today is a shock, that we may finish out our time here with a few more weeks of loving on one another.
I have already shared this news with Ed Davault, our Personnel Team Chairman, and Rhamy Morrison, our Administrator. I’ve also shared this with the staff, and Pastor David and Jeff Young are also aware of the transition. I know that all of these leaders are more than capable of leading you well after I step aside.
As we leave, please know that I love you and I will be praying for you daily until you find your new South Campus Pastor. I hope that you will also pray for Melody and me, and the kids, as we prepare to make this move. The kids have grown up in GABCS, and for our two little guys, this is really the only home and only church family they know. This is hard on all of us, but especially the kids. We do covet your prayers.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or Rhamy Morrison. We’ll be happy to answer your questions.
Your Friend & Brother in Christ,
