“There’s something wrong with a business and media policy ambushing grassroots taxpayers again with a $6 million surprise campaign to promote a $2.9 billion Detroit Regional Tax Hike for sparsely used bus and rail lines.

“On May 4, 2006, the Michigan Supreme Court (SC: 129278) ordered the Mayor of the City of Detroit, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, Macomb County Board of Commissioner’s Chairperson, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, John Hertel’s Regional Transit Coordinating Council (RTCC), and Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) to  immediately dissolve the Detroit Area Regional Transportation Authority (DARTA), after three years of operation, because they had violated provisions of the Headlee Tax Limitation Amendment in our Michigan Constitution.” --

Mackinac Island, June 3, 2016 –

“The Detroit Regional Transportation Authority was created with the same legal entity deficiencies as DARTA. Businesses, politicians and news media are again trying to create a new layer of government with taxing power without first obtaining majority voted approval of the people they intend to tax to pay for it,” stated Bill McMaster on Mackinac Island today.

“Everyday taxpayers already know we cannot trust big business, politicians and news media after we voted down their Proposal 1 Road Tax by 80% a year ago and watched our DIA and Detroit Zoo tax hike money diverted to big pay hikes for DIA Executives/Administrators, and Detroit Zoo expense-paid trips to Antarctica for Board Members and employees.

“Taxpayers United will conduct a News Conference in Detroit next week to dispel the priority need for bus/rail extension of the Detroit People Mover and the 3.2 mile Detroit Trolley to nowhere on Woodward Ave.”

Taxpayers United Michigan Foundation was founded in 1976 by Dick Headlee (deceased 2004) and Bill McMaster to successfully win statewide voter approval of the 1978 Headlee Tax Limitation Amendment in our Michigan Constitution. It has evolved into a tax deductible 501(c)(3) under the IRS code as a nonpartisan, nonprofit educational foundation helping educate grassroots taxpayers how to defend and control their Constitutional Rights despite exploitation by unethical public officials and units of government.
