BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, SEPT. 13, 2016 - CENTRAL ISSUE: IF CITIZENS NOTIFY THE STATE OF CRIMINAL VIOLATIONS OF STATE ELECTION LAWS PRIOR TO AN ELECTION, SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATE BEFORE CERTIFYING THE ELECTION?
"Bloomfield Township citizens are on the warpath against State Government Bureaucracy for avoiding action in responding to the corrupt August 2, 2016 Primary Election in Bloomfield Township,” charged Bill McMaster, State Chairman (Volunteer) of Taxpayers United Michigan Foundation." McMaster refers to the lack of response to Complaints filed with the Attorney General and the Secretary of State requesting that the election be nullified. The group contends that violations of several laws by three elected officials in June changed the outcome of the primary election. State officials were notified of these abuses a week before the election, but did not act.
"A group of 30 taxpayers have complained that Township Supervisor Leo Savoie, Clerk Jan Roncelli and Trustee Brian Kepes illegally conspired to use residents' private email addresses and township resources (staff, programming, data and services) for their campaigns, and in so doing, tainted the election outcome.
"The three deceived the electorate with a fraudulent but official-looking endorsement of themselves from phony organization 'bloomfieldtownshipelections.com
' sent at the same time that absentee ballots were mailed. Clerk Roncelli denied access to the same residents' private email addresses to a citizen who requested it the next day, proving the case for abuse of office. Savoie admitted wrongdoing in a Bloomfield Township Trustee Meeting on July 11th
. Seemingly, Savoie expects immunity and looks forward to running unopposed in November, since no Democrats are on the Ballot.”
"A formal complaint against Supervisor Leo Savoie and Clerk Jan Roncelli was filed according to State laws with the Office of Attorney General Bill Schuette by Bloomfield Township resident Alice on August 25th, a week prior to the election.
"Taxpayers United and three others reinforced the complaint to the Attorney General in a 9/2/16 meeting in Lansing with AG Senior Advisor Rusty Hills where they presented 60 pages of evidence detailing the illegal activity. Hills referred the materials to Denise Barton, Civil Rights and Civil Litigation Practice Group Attorney.
"Taxpayers United also filed a complaint with Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and Bureau of Elections Director Chris Thomas on Friday, 9/9/16. A copy of the Taxpayers United letter accompanying the Complaint was sent to 65 members of the news media and the 145 State Legislators in the House and Senate.
"Our group has not received any rejection of our complaints as of this evening, but a local magazine-type publication has quoted Fred Woodhams, spokesperson for the Michigan Secretary of State office as saying 'We're past the point of changing the ballot. The ballot was certified on Friday, September 9, and can no longer be changed.'
"We can understand the Attorney General and Secretary of State Bureau of Elections' concern with the deadline for printing ballots for the November General Election, but their deadline is based on absentee ballots for millions of statewide Certified Registered Voters (CRV). In Bloomfield Township, a community of 40,000 residents, the printing deadline may be easily moved back for a cause as important as this.”
“Our state regulators are charged with assuring the purity of Michigan elections. The AGs office could have taken action prior to the election but did not choose to do so. Another six weeks have passed without any investigation while the clock ticks down to the election in November. The Michigan Governmental Bureaucracy shouldn't just kick us down the road without doing what only they can do: They must nullify the 8/2/16 Primary Election and reset the ballot to the same group of candidates in order to allow a fair election in November, as well as charging Savoie, Roncelli and Krepes with wrongdoing.”
