Romans is one of the more complex books of the New Testament. But its core message was pretty simple. Paul wanted to make the church in Rome a base of operations for taking the message about Jesus into the western half of the Roman Empire. In Romans, he makes his case for welcoming non-Jewish people, Gentiles, into the community of faith.
