A Message from our Founder and Director Of Racing, Tim Palin:

As we close in on a quarter of a century of Middleham Park Racing, we can look back on another fantastic year, demonstrating a steady growth in the number of horses, winners and owners, compared with previous years and the future looks particularly rosy with over 40 horses yet to debut for us, in the now, easily recognisable light blue and orange silks.

We’re unique at MPR, having achieved over 1000 winners and having started from nothing in 1995, with zero contacts and zero experience in running a syndicate company, through to becoming the UK’s most successful racing syndicate in the history of thoroughbred racing. For this, a heartfelt debt of gratitude goes out to all our owners, past and present, our horses, trainers and stable staff that have enabled this to come to pass, along with our fabulous and 100% devoted staff, who’s dedication and application in pursuit of excellence, afford our owners, the very best experience possible with MPR.

There’s no room for complacency, however. To anyone who has been with us for any amount of time, or for anyone looking in, for that matter, we’d suggest it would be easy to note, that we remain hellishly ambitious and we’re attempting to develop the MPR brand in all sorts of directions, underpinned by our principles of providing the ordinary person in the street, the opportunity to race thoroughbreds at the highest level practicable.

The future looks very bright, and as we enter into 2020 and our second quarter of a century of existence, we’re in our very best position ever, to deliver on our and our owners’ ambitions. Long may it remain this way!

We beat last year's total and 93 is our second highest ever number of winners in a calendar year!

Marie's Rock - 04/12/19
Haydock - Nicky Henderson

Marie's Rock started the month with a bang readily beating a decent field at Haydock on her hurdling debut. Our daughter of Milan put in a sound round of jumping, travelling well throughout the race in the hands of Nico de Boinville. Jumping the last Nico asked her to go a win the race, she put it to bed in a matter of strides with a blistering turn of foot quickly pulling clear to win by five lengths. It was a top performance that has us all excited for what else could be to come from the Henderson trained 5yo.

Raymond Tusk - 14/12/19
Newcastle - Richard Hannon

You could have forgiven Raymond Tusk for being a bit sluggish at Newcastle having returned from the other side of the world just a few weeks earlier. This wasn't the case though and Raymond Tusk showed his class and determination to hold off last years All-Weather Marathon winner, Funny Kid. This race was a Fast-Track Qualifier for the All-Weather Championships early next year.

Motawaafeq - 14/12/19
Wolverhampton - Mick Appleby

Motawaafeq was making his debut for us at Wolverhampton. He was a recent purchase from the Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale; he had made just three starts in France finishing 4th on all three occasions. Things couldn't have gone much worse during the race. He was drawn widest of all in stall 10, and proceeded to stubble as he left the starting stalls. Ali Rawlinson did a fabulous job to keep Motawaafeq in with a chance. The pair had to travel wide to try and gain a position to challenge from in the final bend. It all made for quite an impressive win for Motawaafeq who managed to pick off the majority of the field in the home straight. He is one to keep an eye on as Mick is convinced he will improve going up in trip.

Batchelor Boy - 20/12/19
Wolverhampton - Marco Botti

Batchelor Boy had shown some real promise on his first start at Windsor, and it was regrettable that we couldn't get him back on the track sooner. It appears he is very keen to make up for lost time, however, and on only his third start he found himself in the winner's enclosure. Having been denied by half a length on his return, we were hopeful he could take the step forward and get his nose in front. Batchelor Boy dominated the race from start to finish making virtually all in the hands of Daniel Muscutt.

The team at Prestige Place are in fine form at the moment, as of writing they are operating at a 28% strike rate over the last couple of weeks!

Marie's Rock - 30/12/19
Taunton - Nicky Henderson

If Marie's rock started the month with a bang, then this was an explosion! On her third start under rules, she was thrown in at the deep end lining up in a pattern race. She was conceding weight all round, against more experienced rivals, some of whom had already won impressively at this level. However, it was the same story as at Haydock Marie's Rock travelled sweetly throughout always in touch with the leaders. She took it up, jumping the last and powered away from the field to win by eight lengths.

It was a very eyecatching performance so much so that she has been quoted as short as 8/1 for the Mares Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March!

Nicky Henderson And Paul Nicholls Are Honoured With OBE's

It has been a great start to the 2019/2020 for the last two Champion trainers, with both picking up significant Grade 1 prizes on what seems like a weekly basis. Regular followers of National Hunt racing will not be shocked by this as both Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson have been at the top of this sport for many years now. Their services to our great sport are soon to be recognised, both trainers are listed on the New Years Honours List and will be awarded OBE's by the Queen. It is a fantastic achievement that is a real testament to the work that both yards put in to stay at the top.

We would like to offer our congratulations to two of the best National Hunt trainers there has ever been! 🥂

Middleham Park Racing's "Highlight Of The Decade"

We have had a fantastic decade at Middleham Park Racing with so many achievements that we are proud of. We decided to host a little competition on our social media to find out which our followers' thought was the highlight of our decade. The highlights up for voting included 3 Group 1 wins, reaching 1000 winners, our record-breaking year, a Heritage Handicap double and a couple more that made up the first round. Voting took place on our Twitter, and our Facebook page, over 1,400 votes were cast across the 4 days. There were some very close rounds but eventually, we were left with our two finalists, "Reaching 1000 Winners" and "Toormore being crowned Champion 2yo Colt in Europe". The final was the closest voting of the entire competition with just a couple of hours left to go the voting was level across the two platforms. In the end, one just edged in front of the other, and we had our winner...

Our Champion 2yo came out on top just winning with 52% of the votes.

Thank you to everyone that voted in our polls!

Stable Visits

Micky Hammond

Owners of Grand Du Nord paid a visit to Micky Hammond's yard in Middleham at the beginning of the month. Micky's yard is just down the road from one of our other trainer Mark Johnston. Grand Du Nord (affectionately known in the yard as “Grandad”) is taking everything in his stride at home, Micky couldn't be more pleased with him. He is a big horse that looks purpose-built for a fence but Micky is keen for him to make his debut in the new year.
All his shares are now sold.
Paul Nicholls

Since our last visit to Paul's we have added Glajou to our growing string of National Hunt horses and so we thought it only right to go down and welcome Glajou to team MPR! It's safe to say his new owners weren't disappointed when they got their first look at him in the flesh. Paul is very sweet on Glajou as you can tell from the text he sent us before the visit (Latest Trainer Update). Glajou is our 5th horse now in training with the Champion trainer, the whole string looks in great order and we look forward to seeing what they can achieve on the racecourse in the new year.
We have shares available in Glajou, click the link below to find out more.
We are in the process of organising a few stable visits for the coming months. Keep your eyes on our website and your inbox for all the latest on when and where we will be visiting next.

A Fond Farewell

This month we said goodbye to Indomeneo a regular runner from Richard Fahey's yard. His owners voted to sell the 4yo gelding to race in Kuwait in a private deal. Indomeneo raced a total of 33 times finishing in the winner's enclosure an incredible 19 times! His most recent win came this year at Haydock just a day after his previous run. We wish his new connections all the best, they've certainly bought themselves a tough horse!

New National Hunt Horse

Crossing Lines - David Pipe

We feel pretty sure we’ve unearthed just the perfect recruit to take us to the top meetings in 2020 and beyond - in the form of the recent Point To Point winner CROSSING LINES. He won a very competitive Point to Point in December. It was a “winners of one” race and he both outjumped and outclassed his opposition. He looks a high-class recruit.

By the late sire JEREMY., Nicky Henderson gave a glowing interview at Cheltenham about the sire at the weekend, when Mister Fisher won the Class 2 Ryman Novices' Chase. He of course, is also the sire of our dual Group 2 winner Kool Kompany, now a sire in his own right.

His form is quite exceptional: On Sunday 8th December, he dished out a 20 length demolition of a number of very talented rivals in the "winners' of one, Point To Pointer", bringing his tally to 2 impressive wins. You can watch a video of his impressive victory in the gallery. The summariser’s view of this race can also be seen in the gallery.

Crossing Lines has proven very popular and as a result,
his syndicate is now complete!

Red Bond

(Keith Dalgleish)

He picked up an injury last spring so we’ve been patient with him. However, he put in a career-best on his return to the track last week and is one to look out for over the coming months.
