Dear aged care provider,
From 1 February 2016, Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACATs) will start to use My Aged Care to conduct comprehensive assessments and referrals. The transition dates for each jurisdiction are provided below:

To date, referrals have generally only been made by My Aged Care to Commonwealth Home Support Programme providers. Commencing in February 2016, referrals will commence for home care package providers, residential providers and flexible care services. Some referrals have already been made to these providers within the early implementation areas of Kingston Victoria, the Gold Coast and Toowoomba regions of Queensland.
The ACAT transition means that all referrals for residential care, transition care and home care package providers will come via My Aged Care. Providers will see:
- electronic referrals from My Aged Care – accessible through the provider portal
- some clients directly approaching providers with a My Aged Care referral code – which allows access to the client’s record through the provider portal.
Further information including support material for using the My Aged Care provider portal is available on the Department’s website at dss.gov.au/myagedcare. It is critical all providers ensure they can receive referrals from My Aged Care prior to transition.
Additional assistance is also available on the My Aged Care service provider and assessor helpline (1800 836 799). The helpline is available from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm Saturday, local time across Australia.
