National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator Program
Residential aged care providers should have completed July’s data collection and now be collecting data for each of the three quality indicators for August 2019.
The first quarter’s data needs to be submitted to the department by 21 October 2019.
The Program Manual contains the definitions for each quality indicator and instructions for collecting and submitting your quality indicator data to ensure you meet obligations under the mandatory program.
Residential Aged Care Funding Reform update
The department would like to thank those who attended the industry brief on 9 August 2019 for assessment delivery partners wanting to take part in the residential aged care funding reform trial. The presentation slides as well as questions and answers are available on AusTender.
The department will continue to provide updates on the trial as information becomes available.

MDFA Survey – Help evaluate the impact of digital training tools for Residential Aged Care Facilities
Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) has developed digital training tools for Residential Aged Care Facilities. They aim to help staff and families understand the visual needs of residents and better care for those with vision loss and blindness.
MDFA wishes to evaluate the reach, usefulness and impact of these resources and asks that you take a few moments to view the resources and complete the short online survey.
MDFA greatly values your input to help it better support residential aged care staff and residents.
Clients updating details in My Aged Care
Providers should encourage their care recipients and their representatives to contact My Aged Care when their details change. This includes if they:
- move to a new address or change postal details
- change any part of their name
- need to add or remove a representative
- exit care or pass away.
It is important that information on My Aged Care client records are up to date so that communications are correctly received in a timely manner.
Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) audit
The 1 July 2018 CHSP funding agreement requires the department to run annual audits of CHSP providers’ delivery practices as they relate to achieving a client’s wellness and reablement.
An audit of up to 10% of providers has started, including collating and reviewing assessment, support plan and service delivery information. You may be contacted by the department if additional information is needed.
The audit aims to provide the department with:
- a detailed understanding of the support being given to clients
- insight to care planning processes
- data to inform future program design and management.
