Dear Friends of the Lower Raritan Watershed -

We had a wonderful time hiking the Continental Divide Trail in New Mexico's Rio Choma Watershed, but are now happy to be back doing water quality monitoring in our own Lower Raritan Watershed. Below we share good news regarding pathogens findings and include details about our July 19 general meeting.

July 11 Pathogens Findings: With the exception of the Route 35 Bridge site in Perth Amboy, all Raritan River sites monitored on Monday July 11 in Perth Amboy and South Amboy tested negative for pathogens. Although pathogens were present at the Route 35 Bridge site, the culture registered below 35 MPN/100ml. Per state standards this indicates that the water is safe for swimming. These are CONDITIONAL findings. We have had approximately .2 inches of rainfall since the July 11 sampling, and stormwater can increase presence of pathogens in the Raritan and area streams. Please exercise your best judgment when using area waters.

July 19 General Meeting: Join us July 19 for a special presentation by Raritan RIVERKEEPER Bill Schultz who will speak on Recreation and Access Assets from Branchburg to Raritan Bay. This presentation is a continuation of our Natural Assets Mapping theme for 2016. Schultz founded the Raritan RIVERKEEPER program ten years ago and is the 2016 recipient of the Sustainable Raritan River Initiative's Leadership Award. The meeting will be held from 9:30 - 11 am in the Middlesex County Planning Offices at 78 Bayard Street, New Brunswick, NJ – 5th floor mid-size conference room. Parking is validated for those parking on floors 5 and higher in the RWJ Wellness Parking Deck located at 95 Paterson Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Be sure to bring your ticket to the meeting for validation.

See you in the Watershed!
