November Gratitudes and More...

Hello Friends!

2020 is a year that continues to bring opportunities for openness, expansion, change, and new beginnings.  I began this year by declaring that 2020 is going to be the best year yet.  By many accounts one could argue that with everything going on in the world right now that I was flat wrong.  I won't deny the gravity of our current world circumstances; but I would like to take the chance to challenge, first myself, and in so doing everyone who is reading this message, to look again... to see the many opportunities we have to be thankful.

As always at the top of my list are the amazing relationships with friends and family.  I am ever grateful for YOU and as I always say to close my greetings, I am grateful to be your massage or sound therapist, your natural health consultant, your friend.  As we take a moment to celebrate Thanksgiving and as we enter into this holiday time of the year, I invite you to look for all the gratitudes you can find in your life and celebrate them!  This year I have realized that LOVE is at the top of the list when I call to mind all that I am grateful for.  Read below to see how we are sharing love in a unique, special, and tangible way.

Finally, speaking of gratitude...  I was blessed to share another "Body, Mind, Spirit" event at First Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor this week.  Our focus included mindfulness practices to cultivate thankfulness, gratitude, and appreciation.  Check it out by clicking here.

Peace - r

Michigan Pauses

The latest pandemic orders, announced on Saturday, November 14 by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have called for a "pause" for our state.  These orders do make provisions for personal services to continue to work in an "appointment only" format, which is how we will proceed.  Massage, sound therapy, reiki, reflexology, etc. are all considered personal services and will continue to be safely offered with the same protocols and procedures that we have been employing throughout this entire public health crisis.

The order also reinforces that masks must be worn at all times.  Please continue to do your part to slow the spread by continuously wearing your mask throughout your entire session.  As a reminder, we ask that you plan your next session accordingly if you are traveling for the holidays, hosting guests from outside of your immediate household, or if you are are not feeling well.  We ask that you plan appropriately and contact us immediately to reschedule you appointment if you are not feeling well.
Random Act of Love

For the past few weeks I have been sharing on social media and in my monthly notes, that I have been preparing a very special project to share with the world.  Based on the concept from the 1980's and 1990's of the "Random Act of Kindness", I am launching... Random Acts of Love!  A Random Act of Love is a unique care package which shows something that the world needs so much right now, LOVE!

This past year, in the midst of the raging Coronavirus Pandemic, I was shown a Random Act of Love by a dear friend. It reminded me that, as the song goes, “what the world needs now, is love, sweet love” and “all you need is love”. So, I was inspired to put together something that could help others to see that love. At first, I had hoped to gather several friends, all experts in their fields, to create a several day long video conference to share tips and tools to help make it through difficult times like we are facing now. Then I sat in a multiple day online conference and I realized, we are full up on technology and (especially) video conference calls. I needed to change my thought pattern on this project and put together a care package of sorts, some tangible things, that people could hold, experience, and even share with others. This project: Random Acts of Love was born.

Enclosed in the Random Act of Love Care Package you will find:

– a packet of bath salts scented w/ pure lavender essential oils

– a sweet treat of mushroom elixir hot cocoa mix

– all natural Jade Oolong Tea

– instructions for a simple mindfulness technique called Square Breathing

– a wooden heart from Colors of the Wood (Northville, MI)

– two pieces of rose quartz from Wick and Candle (Livonia, MI)
(1 to keep as a reminder that you are loved & 1 to give away)

You may very well see a Random Act of Love showing up in your neck of the woods as we begin to share these amazing care packages.  Maybe you are feeling inspired to share one with someone you love.  If so, we would love to gift you with one of our Random Act of Love care packages.  Simply fill out the form here and we will contact you to arrange a pick up at our Ann Arbor office.  Contactless pick up is preferred.

Eating Right

This months recipe is a tasty Quinoa Salad that I began eating over this past summer.  I've adapted it and adjusted it, "doctored it up" and played around with adding other flavors like shredded carrot, pickled red onion, cilantro, and more.  I hope you will try this recipe and enjoy!

Ingredients

1 cup uncooked quinoa, rinsed
2 cups water
1 can (15 oz.) chickpeas, rinsed & drained
1 medium cucumber, seeded and chopped
1 medium red bell pepper, roasted and chopped

3/4 cup chopped red onion
1 cup finely chopped flat-leaf parsley
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 T red wine vinegar
2 cloves garlic minced
1/2 t fine sea salt
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions
1. To cook the quinoa: Combine the rinsed quinoa and the water in a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then decrease the heat to maintain a gentle simmer. Cook until the quinoa has absorbed all of the water, about 15 minutes, reducing heat as time goes on to maintain a gentle simmer. Remove from heat, cover, and let the quinoa rest for 5 minutes, to give it time to fluff up.

2. In a large serving bowl, combine the chickpeas, cucumber, bell pepper, onion and parsley. Set aside.

3. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, lemon juice, vinegar, garlic and salt. Whisk until blended, then set aside.

4. Once the quinoa is mostly cool, add it to the serving bowl, and drizzle the dressing on top. Toss until the mixture is thoroughly combined. Season with black pepper, to taste, and add an extra pinch of salt if necessary. For best flavor, let the salad rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

5. This salad keeps well in the refrigerator, covered, for about 4 days. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
