Ashley Waddington, one of the newest members on the Ronald McDonald House of Charities Board of Directors, felt as though she was meant to be a part of the Ronald McDonald House family when what seemed like fate unfolded. In efforts to further immerse herself into the local community, Ashley asked her good friends Mike Potapow and Jan LeDuc of any openings or opportunities going on at the house. Coincidentally, it was that same day when Sherry Houston was planning on reaching out to her, especially after receiving a recommendation from Jan.
Ashley also has personal ties to the Ronald McDonald House which further motivated her to serve as a member on the Board of Directors. She has experienced the lasting impacts that the Ronald McDonald House leaves you with, when her own family was cared for after an accident. Ashley said, “My family has firsthand seen the blessing that the Ronald McDonald House can be when my cousin was involved in a car accident several years back. If there was any way I could be as much of a blessing for other families as that group was to my family, I absolutely wanted to be a part of it.” She has always believed in giving back, specifically geared towards children so it was what seemed like the perfect fit.
Outside of the Ronald McDonald House, Ashley has worked as a financial advisor for the last 7.5 years and most recently took over the role of Senior Wealth Strategy Associate. She said she loves her job because she’s “able to help others reach their financial goals” as well as the “strong connections we make with all our clients.” She mentioned how grateful she was to be raised by such amazing parents-
“I was fortunate to be raised by parents who taught me I could do anything I set my mind to, the value of hard work, and how important it is to share your blessings with others.” Ashley has most definitely shared her blessings with the Ronald McDonald House through her consistent dedication and strong leadership.
As a member of the Board, Ashley is also a part of many other committees- the Bourbon and BBQ Committee, the Development Committee and her most recent up taking, the Finance Committee. Ashley has many responsibilities, but feels her main duty is to raise awareness for the House using her day to day connections. She said,
“Whether it's connecting a good friend who is a hairstylist and can provide haircuts at the House, arranging Visiting Chef dinners with my office at the House once a quarter, making sure the wish list items get purchased for the House, etc. All of these things add up and really help to make sure the needs of our families get met.”
As for the fundraising events going on this year, Ashley said she is most excited for The Red Shoe Affair. Because of how fantastic it went last year, she’s eager to see how much they can accomplish with the next Red Shoe event. When asked what changes she’d like to make at the Ronald McDonald House this year, she said
“I feel like the changes Sherry has been helping us make this last year have been outstanding as it is. I want to see us continue to grow and provide for our families, whether that involves an addition, more services for our families, or whatever other need arises.” The Ronald McDonald House of North Central Florida is so lucky to have Ashley as a new Board member and is so grateful for all the hard work she does.

King of the Court
King of the Court, formally known as Lion's Share Challenge, is an annual basketball tournament hosted by the Gamma Iota chapter of Alpha Delta Pi at the University of Florida. The event will be held at the Broward Courts on Tuesday, October 29th from 5-10 pm. At last year’s event, ADPi raised over $20,000 which greatly contributed to replacing the old furniture in the bedrooms of the House. Halle Shade, the current Philanthropy Chair of ADPi and former intern at RMH expressed her appreciation for the upcoming tournament: “ADPi’s relationship with RMH is not only incredibly meaningful, but also very rare. It’s not very often that a chapter has such tangible access to their philanthropy, and all of us ADPi’s could not be more grateful to physically witness the impact one can make on families’ lives.” We are so eager to see what this year’s event brings to the table!
Bourbon N’ BBQ
The Bourbon N’ BBQ event was first coined by Terry Vaughan during his first meeting as a member of the RMHC Advisory Council about three years ago. He recalls Sherry Houston mentioning the Red Shoe Society’s fundraiser and social event called “Wine and Fries” and following his introduction he remarked “If the Red Shoe Society can host a “Wine and Fries” event, why can’t we have “Bourbon and Burgers?” Luckily, to his relief the rest of the Council members liked his idea and as a result he has been the event’s Chair since 2017! This year, Bourbon N’ BBQ will be held at The Village in their Tower Club and Ballroom on Sunday, November 10th from 4 to 7 pm. Sponsorships are as low as $500 and individual tickets are only $50! We hope to see you there tasting the barbeque, bourbon, beer and wine and experiencing the excitement of games like “Bourbon Pull” and the fantastic auction items.

Sponsorship and ticket information are available at:

Audi Octoberfest
On Saturday, October 19th from 10 am to 6 pm at Audi of Gainesville 1920 N Main St, the third annual German Octoberfest will be taking place and all proceeds will be going towards the House. There will be a band flown in from Munich, authentic German food, hand-made pretzels and potato salad and to top it off- a beer garden sponsored by Swamp Head Brewery! This is the perfect opportunity to impact many families’ lives all while celebrating the game and immersing yourself in German culture. We are so excited to be supported by Audi and can’t wait to see everyone at the event!
Thank you for supporting our house!
At RMH, we believe that when a child is hospitalized, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. It is because of friends like you that we can keep families close to each other and the care they need, when they need it most.

With gratitude,
