This month’s volunteer spotlight is dedicated to our famous goodie bag volunteer, Emily Gleim, who is a pretty “sweet” volunteer. Since 2015, Emily has filled just as many hearts with joy as she has goodie bags.
Emily started volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House Charities during her freshmen year of high school as a way to fulfill her required community service hours. Since her uncle had previously volunteered with RMHCNCF, she could not think of a better place to volunteer than our House.

What started as a need to fulfill community service requirements has quickly turned into a passion for helping the families of sick children. She has learned how to be selfless, as she loves helping others and now knows the importance of giving back to the community. Through volunteering, Emily has developed a love for helping her community.

“I have gained so much comfort in helping others, and it makes me feel good to see how happy the children are when I give them goodie bags,” Emily said.

Emily and her grandmother came up with the idea of goodie bags when she first started volunteering at RMHCNCF. After seeing families alternate solely from the House to the hospital and vice versa, Emily thought goodie bags would be perfect for families in a time crunch during their scheduled swaps. Emily even makes special goodie bags during select holidays in the year. For example, she makes candy cane reindeer themed bags during Christmas time. During Christmas in July, she encourages children staying at the House to make their very own candy cane reindeer.

We are so thankful for Emily’s creativity, passion, and dedication to helping the families of sick children. Thank you, Emily, for your service at the Ronald McDonald House.

Inaugural McKenzie’s Moment Golf Tournament
McKenzie’s Moment is a non-profit that was created by Ryan and Kait Gray to spread awareness and raise donations to enable the success of Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida, in honor of their daughter, McKenzie Ryan Kearney Gray. McKenzie’s Moment strives to let every child feel the love of their families day in and day out and hopes that no child will go a single day without family by their side.

To celebrate the life of McKenzie, McKenzie’s Moment hosted the Inaugural McKenzie’s Moment Golf Tournament. RMHCNCF is honored to be the beneficiary of such a meaningful event. McKenzie’s mother, Kait, said, “We are so grateful for the amount of support shown throughout the country by our family, friends and new found friends of McKenzie’s Moment. What a special day this was to our family and we thank Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club and Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida for allowing us such a wonderful platform to provide a legacy for McKenzie Ryan Kearney Gray for years to come.”

Thanks to the many golfers, sponsors, and guest celebrities, the Inaugural McKenzie’s Moment Golf Tournament raised $100,000 for RMHCNCF! We are beyond grateful for the hard work of McKenzie’s Moment and their dedication to supporting our mission of keeping families close.

Thank you, Furniture Country!
RMHCNCF is so excited to announce that each room at the House has received a new bedframe, headboard, dresser, night stand, and mirror! The beautiful new additions to the rooms would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of Furniture Country.

The owner of Furniture Country, Randy Shindle, said, “On behalf of all of us here at Furniture Country, it has been an honor and a privilege to be given the opportunity to not only be representatives of the local business community in partnering with a worldwide recognized organization such as the Ronald McDonald House, but to also know that we assisted in the helping of families of children with medical care needs to be more comfortable while away from their homes and in the process of tending to their children. It was and is a truly humbling experience.”

Thank you for supporting our house!
At RMH, we believe that when a child is hospitalized, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. It is because of friends like you that we can keep families close to each other and the care they need, when they need it most.
