VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Donna Schroeder
& Joanee Mousa
Donna Schroeder and Joanne Mousa are truly two peas in a pod. They have been volunteering together at the Ronald McDonald House for three years now, but have been best friends for almost forty years!

Once Donna and Joanne retired from the Alachua County School System, they decided to give back to the community together. Since they enjoyed working with children, they felt like the Ronald McDonald House would be a perfect fit, and a perfect fit it was!

Donna and Joanne love coming in to volunteer together. In fact, they make a whole day out of it. Before coming in to volunteer, they treat themselves to a nice lunch before their shift. They always want to try something new and different, but they usually end up going to their favorite spot, Mildred’s. After lunch, they both come in with huge smiles on their faces ready to take on the day together.
Donna and Joanne love being the friendly faces that welcome our families into the House. Donna said, “I really like being a part of making our families’ days better and more comfortable.” They enjoy showing our families around the House and answering any questions our families may have. They especially enjoy giving our families crocheted gifts and stuffed animals that have been graciously donated to the House. Donna and Joanne said that they are amazed at the generosity of the Gainesville community.
Donna and Joanne have been an immense help to the Ronald McDonald House. Their smiles light up the room and their compassion and positivity make such a difference in our families’ lives. We are so fortunate to have both of you!

Lion’s Share Challenge
The wonderful women of Alpha Delta Pi at The University of Florida hosted their annual basketball tournament, Lion’s Share Challenge, where all the proceeds from the event are donated back to the Ronald McDonald House. This year’s tournament was designed to make guests feel like they were in outer space with the theme being “Rocket for the Ronald McDonald House”. In addition, Alpha Delta Pi’s members organized a silent disco at the event where guests could listen to music on wireless headphones while dancing and cheering on all the teams participating in the tournament.

The women of Alpha Delta Pi set a goal to raise $20,000 for the Ronald McDonald House at this year’s Lion Share Challenge. With all of their hard work and dedication, they were able to surpass their goal! We are so grateful for the women of Alpha Delta Pi and we are so thankful for their continuous generosity and kindness. Alpha Delta Pi’s Philanthropy Director, Meg Schloss, said “Our Alpha Delta Pi chapter at The University of Florida has always cherished our strong relationships with the families, staff and everyone involved with the Ronald McDonald House so close to us in Gainesville. Yet, this year, I felt we were able to top previous years in the electric energy and drive going into our event. It is so uplifting to see all of my friends reunite to help the House in its mission of keeping families close.”
Thank you to all those who attended Gainesville’s second annual authentic German Oktoberfest at Audi Gainesville. We are so grateful to have all the proceeds from the event go back to the Ronald McDonald House and directly benefit the families served by our House. We are thrilled to announce that we were able to raise over $15,000 thanks to the generosity of the 800 guests!

We hope you had as much fun as we did at the event. We are already looking forward to Audi Gainesville’s third annual authentic German Oktoberfest next year!
The City of Gainesville General Government and Gainesville Regional Utilities have come together once again to launch their second annual Employee Charitable Campaign to raise funds for local charities in order to improve the lives of those less fortunate. Their first Employee Charitable Campaign was a huge success last year and raised $55,195 for seventy nonprofits in the Gainesville community. The RMH is so grateful to be one of the charities participating in their Charitable Campaign this year.

To launch their second annual Employee Charitable Campaign, The City of Gainesville General Government and Gainesville Regional Utilities hosted a nonprofit fair where City of Gainesville employees had the opportunity to meet and interact with over forty nonprofits from the Gainesville community, including the RMH. Sarah Barnes, Senior Communications Specialist at Gainesville Regional Utilities, said, “The nonprofit fair showcased organizations throughout Gainesville who are doing such great work for the community.” We were thrilled to be able to attend the nonprofit fair and spread the word about our mission.
Thank you for supporting our house!
At RMH, we believe that when a child is hospitalized, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. It is because of friends like you that we can keep families close to each other and the care they need, when they need it.

With gratitude,
