Caitlin was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age and has used a wheelchair for most of her life.  She has undergone multiple orthopedic surgeries over the years, but the most complex surgery required a spinal fusion at age thirteen. During that surgery, her family stayed at a Ronald McDonald House to allow them to be close to her during that difficult time. Caitlin said, “We couldn’t have survived without the support of the Ronald McDonald House”.
Caitlin now volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House twice a week! Caitlin said, “I wanted to give back to the same organization that helped me and my family.”

Caitlin goes to Starbucks and Chipotle twice a week to pick up donations for the Ronald McDonald House. She counts all the donations and then labels each item for the families to enjoy. Caitlin loves to play the Disney station on Pandora when she labels the items because she likes to see the families and children dance and sing along with her. Caitlin said, “The little kids really love when I play the Disney station. Their faces just light up!”

In addition, Caitlin also bakes delicious treats for the families because she wants to brighten up their day. Caitlin said, “I like baking cookies, brownies, and other treats because it makes the House smell really good and makes the families feel like they are at home.”

Caitlin described her four years of volunteering as a very rewarding experience. “I will volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House for as long as I can.”

Holiday Cheer at The House
The Ronald McDonald House was filled with happiness and joy this holiday season thanks to the generosity of the Gainesville community! Following a visit from Santa, the Ronald McDonald House opened up Santa’s Toy Shop where each family member could pick out a special present.
Santa’s Toy Shop was filled with presents that were generously donated from members of the Gainesville community. Info Tech, Inc. was kind enough to donate $10,000 worth of gifts to the House this holiday season!
The Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club, Audi Gainesville, and MidiCi The Neapolitan Pizza Company hosted toy drives for the Ronald McDonald House where customers and staff donated various toys that filled Santa’s Workshop.

Thank you for supporting our house!
At RMH, we believe that when a child is hospitalized, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. It is because of friends like you that we can keep families close to each other and the care they need, when they need it.

To support our House and keep families close, visit our website. We greatly appreciate your contribution to our Home.
With gratitude,

Sherry Houston
