SATC Newsletter 2018/14

Apologies for the break between Stroud Against the Cuts newsletters, and many thanks to all of you who helped, attended and participated in our #NHS70Stroud celebrations (see a short video below).

A full newsletter will follow soon - including details of our next organising meeting - but for now we wanted to share a request for support from our friends fighting hospital closures in the Forest of Dean. Please attend if you can, and show your support on social media if you aren't able to attend.

#TheSilencedMajority
demonstration

Thursday 30th August 2018 from 1.30PM outside Forest Hills Golf Club, Coleford. Click for Facebook event details to share/invite friends.

Local NHS organisations want to close two community hospitals in the Forest of Dean and replace them with a single, smaller, new hospital.

The joint boards will make their decision on the location of a new community hospital despite the fact HOLD - Hands Off Lydney and Dilke hospitals campaign, the 'engagement exercise' the Trusts ran, and other evidence suggests that people want - and more importantly - need two hospitals.

HOLD say:

"> Staff have been silenced.
> The public have been silenced.
> Patients have been silenced.
We are #TheSilencedMajority and we want to #HOLDOurHospitals!"

HOLD are inviting people to join a silent demonstration outside the meeting at Forest Hills Golf Club in Coleford, tomorrow Thursday 20th August from 1.30pm. These hospitals are part of the network of community hospitals that serve the whole county of Gloucestershire - the fight in the Forest is our fight in Stroud too.

If you can't join HOLD - Hands Off Lydney and Dilke hospitals on the day, they encourage you to join in on social media with the hashtags: #TheSilencedMajority and #HOLDOurHospitals. You can find HOLD on Facebook, and they are @HOLDourHospital on twitter.

The group is also encouraging people to join as members - which is 100% free:
www.holdmembership.wordpress.com. They are continuing to prepare for a Judicial Review - so sign up to receive updates.

HOLD demands that Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Gloucestershire Care Services (GCS, the NHS Trust that manages local community hospitals):

1. Keep the Dilke Memorial and Lydney Community Hospitals open
2. Ensure joint investment to improve both hospitals and sites
3. Ensure any care in the community initiatives are an addition not a replacement

We do not and will not accept: cuts to beds, facilities or services.

Gloucestershire Live coverage from January: Foresters say no to closure of Dilke and Lydney hospitals
In this video, Zac Arnold from the HOLD Campaign talks about the Citizens' Jury to decide the location of a new community hospital in the Forest of Dean. The HOLD Campaign believes that the Jury is a strong concept, however unfortunately it should have been used during the original consultation to decide whether the public wanted two hospitals replaced with a single, smaller, new one.
On Saturday 7th July we marked the 70th anniversary of the NHS and celebrated the founding principles of the service. Thanks to everyone who took part and made the day so special - including Paul Southcott, our "Aneurin Bevan", and Mike Bale for filming and putting this piece together. Please watch and share! (you can also share the video on Facebook - where it's had over 1,600 views)

Check out NHS70stroud.wordpress.com for more information about the day - more photos, videos and audio recordings to come! If you didn't get a chance to donate on the day but valued the event, we would still appreciate donations.
