Guild Night

April 2015
Guild Night
Our guest 'speakers' this month were all 'home grown'. There's such a wealth of knowledge right in our own guild that April was a Round Robin kind of evening. With four stations set up our presenters each demonstrated a different technique. There was a lot of information packed into a short time as well as plenty of laughter.

We also added some serious mileage (well, inch-age) to our Lollygagging to Lethbridge goal. It seems our members weren't completely hibernating this past winter.

Because of the holiday weekend our May meeting will be held on May 25 starting at our usual time of 7 pm for socializing and library browsing. The meeting itself starts at 7:30 pm.
Hope Christian Reform Church, 14480 Old Simcoe Rd, Port Perry

President's Message
Has spring finally arrived?

I hope everyone has had a chance to enjoy the nice weather and by the long range forecast we will be on the receiving end of more nice weather in the upcoming weeks.
While we are ending another guild year in another month, the executive is already planning for the 2015-16 guild year.  We have many great speakers and activities planned for the year.  We also cannot forget about our Guild show in May.  Of course, you will be hearing more about this in the upcoming months.
In closing we must continue to support our guild so that we can continue to learn from each other and have fun doing it.
See everyone on May 25th for our guest speaker Patti Carey.

May all your stitches be forward,

LollyGagging to Lethbridge
The Inches Are On the Rise!

The measure of inches at April's Guild meeting were 4,826 - bringing our total to 30,677 inches since September.
Let's wrap up the season with lots more inches; bring your quilts and quilt tops that we haven't seen yet out to the next meeting! It is a highlight of the evening to see your creations.

I promise to bring some too!

President's Challenge

Canada Strong and Free

It is that time in the guild year to introduce the President’s Challenge. The theme is “Canada Strong and Free.”  It is to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown accord and Canada’s upcoming 150th anniversary in 2017.

You will receive one panel piece and one fat quarter of the Canada Northcott Fabric which has been graciously donated by Northcott Fabrics, to make your 18x24 wall hanging.
Included in your package will also be a topic relating to the theme.  This is what your wall hanging should be about.  An example of this would be a province, a capital city or a part of the country such as the East coast.
You will be able to add  more of the Canada fabric line which is available at Quilter’s Cupboard plus co-ordinating fabrics. You can also do applique or embellishments.
The reveal will take place at the October guild meeting. There will be prizes for:

Novice quilter

Viewer’s Choice

1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall

These wall hangings will also hang at our guild show in May 2016.  Your packages will be available for pick up at the May guild meeting.  So put your creative minds to work and join me in this creative challenge.

Mark your calendars now with the show dates. Every member is welcome to come out to a planning meeting to see if you want to join the team.
We meet next on June 8th at 7 pm, 318 McDonald Street in Port Perry. I’ve created a page on our website that will keep you updated about all of our key plans!

Website and Social Media Update

We’ve got a great website and now have two more editors, Aprille Janes and Joanne Reynolds.
We update it all the time with lots of great photos and news. If you are ever in doubt about a meeting date or time - check out the calendar - right on the home page!
I have listed every Guild Night through to June of 2016, our show and all of the planning meetings for the show. I’ll try to remember to post the Guild Executive Meetings as they are scheduled.
And we post lots of fun stuff on our Facebook page too.
We are happy to post anything you think of interest to our members and if you have a photo - all the better.

By the way, I get mail from the site, too at

The Daytime Divas met again at Hope Church to continue work on the first of the dignity quilts that will be made and donated to the community. Thanks to Wilma for joining Marg, Connie, Karen and I. We made fabulous progress completing the quilt top and back and getting it sandwiched!  Wow, not too bad for just two sew dates. It is so true that "many hands make light work". The project is moving about between the Divas for quilting and binding.
We will have Show 'n Tell as soon as it is finished.

The Evening Divas meet again this month but as there is a little applique in this second Dignity Quilt I am not sure the group will make quite as rapid progress. The race is on!
We did again enjoy an evening of terrific laughter and quilt making. The "evening group" included Evelyn, Dianne, Sherri, and I with a few missing quilters that I hope will join us this month.
