Data Enhancement Update

Over the past couple months I have been reading a lot about data -- thank goodness for libraries! The first step to completing our data enhancement project was to come up with a solid plan of action. The second step was to start tidying up the data we have stored, this includes four years of litter cleanup data containing over 1 million pieces of litter collected.
This is an ongoing process and it's not surprising to find that there were some incorrect entries, missing information, or entries that were not linked to our grand total. What I've learned so far has been eye opening and gives me a lot of hope that by the end of this project I'll be able to give you valuable information from our data in a simple, inspiring way!
I have a question for you: What would you like to learn from our data? I'd love to hear what you're interested in learning about when it comes to litter. It's easy to create a map that shows litter location and volume, but I'd like to dig a little deeper. Send me your questions and I'll do my best to come up with the proper analysis to find the answers. Some questions I'm interested in answering are what are the main sources of litter and what percentage is recyclable (most of the plastics we pick up are not recyclable because they're too degraded, but cans, glass and cigarette butts can always be recycled).

Thank you Ontario Trillium Foundation for making this project happen!

Upcoming Markets

We will have booths set up at three markets in the near future. If you're in the neighbourhood be sure to pop by to say hello. This is also a great opportunity to help support our Love Your Lake program as all sales go 100% towards running this important program. We'll be selling all our favourite zero waste goods including stainless steel straws, bamboo toothbrushes, cotton bulk & produce bags, reusable snack bags, and more. Here's where you can find us:

Zero Waste Shop

If you can't make it out to one of our market appearances do not fret! Our online shop is open and orders over $50 qualify for free shipping in Canada. Our Christmas wish is to sell 1,000 stainless steel straws that will be stuffed into stockings this holiday season. Using a stainless steel straw is a tiny change that can make a huge impact over time. Order early to ensure we don't run out of stock! Visit Our Shop Here

If you have any questions about the products we sell or the projects we're working on feel free to drop me a line! I'm always up for a chat and have lots of opportunities for anyone interested in volunteering. I hope you're having a wonderful fall and are looking forward to the festive season as much as I am!

Sincerely,
Rochelle Byrne
