2018 was the fourth warmest year in continued warming trend

2018 was the fourth hottest year in the modern record, part of a decades-long trend of warming. The record dates back to 1880, when it became possible to collect consistent, reliable temperatures around the planet. NASA and NOAA work together to track the temperatures, part of ongoing research into our warming planet.

 

People in direct provision and techies designing solutions to help assist migrants are among those who will be taking part in a special start-up weekend taking place in Dublin next month. Techstars, the international business accelerator programme that has backed more than 1,300 companies globally, is teaming up with Dublin City Council and the Dublin Local Enterprise Office for the event, which runs from March 8th to the 10th. In mid-January, Salesforce announced it was building a new campus in Dublin that would lead to 1,500 new jobs over the next five years. Just a few days later, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg was in town and revealed that the social media giant would be hiring 1,000 more people in Ireland, bringing its total headcount to 5,000. “Stampify is a social initiative that allows users to donate meals to help fight world hunger by completing a Stampify loyalty card with loyalty stamps from partner businesses,” explained Stampify CEO and founder Conor Leen. Stampify is an idea founded upon Leen’s experience one evening on the way home from work when he received a free meal from a burrito shop with one of his completed loyalty cards.
