SLH would like to wish all our supporters a Happy Christmas and a peaceful year in 2021.
Thank all of you for your support, help, ideas and inspiration through 2020. We hope we will soon be able to get back to some of our regular activities, as well as some new ones!
From the SLH team

There might be less than usual to occupy us this Christmas, so we have been putting together some things we’ve been watching and listening to recently. We hope that you find them thought-provoking and inspiring, even if a little sobering too.

What Planet Are We On? ….with Liz Bonnin is a BBC podcast, exploring the impacts of climate change. The series offers solutions and practical tips with experts, campaigners and well-known names.  We’ve mentioned it in our newsletter before, but we want to mention it again because it’s so good!

David Attenborough: Extinction: The Facts was broadcast earlier this year- definitely worth catching up on this film if you missed it. As with all David Attenborough productions, it is for all the family.

Ecologi: It’s Time- A Festival of Climate Action happened on line in November, and can be still viewed for some inspiring ideas.

Jen Gale's The Sustainable(ish) podcasts are dispatched  weekly and are a useful way to think about how we can gently adapt our lives and make small changes that can make a difference to our world, climate change and nature. The whole range can be picked up here.

Manchester Green Summit was one week in September 2020-in fact Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham chaired it very soon after meeting the Heatons Youth Climate Commission at the Heatons Climate Action Festival!  Recordings of all the events are here.
Monday | GM Green Summit (

And lastly, because we cannot help but remind you………!

Heatons Climate Action Festival in September 2020 has all its events on our You-tube channel. If you missed them there is still time to watch.

Is Winter Getting To You? - Ideas To Make Your House Warmer and Cheaper to Heat will be an informal Q & A session run by SLH using zoom webinar on 13th January 2021 at 8pm. As a follow-up  to our sessions on property and energy efficiency at the Heatons Climate Action Festival, there will be lots of time to quiz Sara Darwin of  phi architects, Mel Godfrey of Warm in Winter and Steve Howarth, local eco-home owner, about how to improve the temperature in your house and save money too.
Contact to book a place and we’ll send a link.

Shedtalks with Heatons’ Men in Sheds happen regularly via zoom-and there are some interesting topics lined up for 2021: The UK Power Distribution Network, Nuclear Fission, Nuclear Fusion, and we believe more to come. If you would like to join in, contact, see their website,  or on Facebook: look for Heatons’ Men in Sheds

Reducing the plastics in supermarkets is something that both SLH and our colleagues in Heatons Kick the Plastics would love to see! Sign to support this campaign.

The SLH monthly meetings continue to be via ZOOM, on Saturday mornings 10.30-12.00. The next one will be Saturday 2nd January 2021.  Please contact us beforehand at if you would like to join in, and we will send you the link. Everyone is welcome.
