Fraud - Coming to a Home Near You!

We all think that being a victim of fraud is something that happens to other people: a remote tragedy that affects only a minority...yet with the Land Registry paying out over £26 million in claims for fraud last year, the risk of being a victim of property fraud is greater than ever. We may fear being burgled and having our possessions stolen but what if the thief actually steals your house (and we don't mean the roof tiles or lead)? The legal title  to your house can be stolen and for most people the legal title to a property is their most valuable possession.

In the last 5 years, the Land Registry has prevented frauds on properties amounting to more than £66 million. In a recent case, two fraudsters managed to pocket £50,000 by selling an empty home they didn't own. The fraud was spotted before the change of title could be registered but the fraudsters got away with the money and are still wanted by police.

Cohabiting Couples: What Happens When the Passion Fizzles Out?
 
It is estimated that the number of couples living together without getting married in the UK has risen by approximately 30% in the last decade. Despite this significant trend, there is still no legislative protection available to cohabitees (especially in relation to personal finances) when their relationship comes to an end.


With over six million people cohabiting in the UK, this leaves many people in a vulnerable and exposed position financially if their ex partner refuses to agree to a fair and reasonable financial settlement after a break up.  Read more ...

The Mayfair branch of 7AM was launched from our office last month. 7AM is a new type of networking group launched by partner George Cselko. The cost is  currently £15 to attend as a guest, or £50 quarterly membership to cover breakfasts and contribution to website costs and socials. The boardroom at out offices in the heart of Mayfair provides an intimate venue where everyone can be easily heard when giving their presentations.  Read more..
