Hi <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>,

Hello, and welcome to the third issue of the Kaiju Kennels newsletter! If this is the first issue you have received, we hope you enjoy. This newsletter is published on the 15th of the month. Depending on how much news we have to share, it may be one or two months between issues.

We have another rescue spotlight for you in this issue, again from Southern California. A rescuer who is heavily involved with the breed reported recently that of the known Japanese Akita backyard breeders there are 8 in California, 1 in Texas, 1 in Florida, 1 in Georgia, and 1 in New York. So it is most likely we will be sharing rescues from these areas.

Last issue we mentioned that Batora was available to a new home. Well, he found an awesome family in Oregon and we're taking him to meet them today! They will have a trial week with him, and if all goes well, Batora will be staying here in his new home. He will even have a Shiba Inu girl to boss him around. We're so happy to welcome the new members of the Kaiju Family.

On another happy note, Cassius, the Rescue Spotlight from our last issue, was also adopted! Additionally we helped a white Japanese Akita named Yashi (now Jasmine) find her forever home with a member of JACA. Congrats Cassius and Jasmine!

The Kaiju Kennels website was recently updated, and you can now view galleries of all of our dogs and puppies from our litters. Additionally, each dog's page links to posts about that dog and displays his or her health clearances to date. This should make it much easier for everyone interested in a puppy from us.

Remember, we post photos, interesting articles, and fun tidbits on our Facebook page many times a week, so please follow us!

Best Regards,
Claire Matthews

Breeding Plans

Mosura is due in season soon and we are excited about her Halloween litter with King Ghidora! We have not yet selected the father of Angirasu's or Godzuki's litters, but they will be red and brindle respectively.

July Birthdays

July is a major month for birthdays around here! Happy Birthday to Mosura, who turned 4 on July 8th; our American Akita, Gryphon, who turned 8 on July 17th; and momma Bijo, who also turned 8 on July 30th! The girls celebrated with bully sticks and extra treats.

ATTS Temperament Testing

Mosura and Bijo were temperament tested by ATTS at the end of July. We had a bit of bad luck; Bijo came into season a few days earlier and Mosura injured her paw bad enough to limp just minutes before her turn. Despite these stressful conditions, both girls passed the test with ease! They now get to add "TT" to the end of their registered names.

The ATTS test focuses on and measures different aspects of temperament such as stability, shyness, aggressiveness, and friendliness as well as the dog's instinct for protectiveness towards its handler and/or self-preservation in the face of a threat. The test is designed for the betterment of all breeds of dogs and takes into consideration each breed's inherent tendencies.

Visit our website to see more photos of the tests.

Annual Health Clearances

We took all five of our current breeding dogs to get their OFA eyes done last month. They all passed, although Gamera and Godzuki have persistent pupillary membranes from iris to iris. There are no symptoms associated with PPM so their eye clearances will state as "breeder option."

New Grand Champions:
Mosura and Bijo!

Rat-Tastic Con

Action Dog Sports put on a fantastic Barn Hunt event for 10 full days called Rat-Tastic Con. The event included three full-day seminars, introduction to rats, practice runs, and fun games for the dogs to build drive and confidence.

After all of the seminars, lessons, and games we entered Mosura and Godzuki in their first official trials. Both girls passed their Instinct test, earning the title RATI! We're looking forward to more events and working on the girls' Novice legs.

Visit our website to see more photos from the event.

Upcoming Shows

With the completion of Mosura and Bijo's Grand Championships, we are taking a break from conformation events until 2017. We plan to focus more on Nose Work, Barn Hunt, Lure Coursing, or whatever other performance events our dogs enjoy in the meantime. Hope to see you at the trials!
