Peridot is named after the French word peritot, meaning gold.
August’s Birthstone and also the Anniversary gemstone for the 16th year of marriage.

The Lore of Peridot
Peridot has been credited with a host of healing properties and magical powers. A guard against the evil eye, Peridot was thought to sweeten dreams and reveal insights. Legends say that if the gem is set in gold, it will develop its full potential as a talisman and will have the power to dispel terrors of the night.
The Book of Exodus, describes that the high priest's breastplate, includes a stone for each of the twelve tribes of Israel, one of which is believed to have been peridot.
Even the indigenous Hawaiian people, treasured Peridot believing the gem to be tears of the Goddess Pele (the volcano goddess) as its formed at the earth’s mantle and delivered to the surface by tectonic or volcanic activity.
