The Alligator's Mouth Launch Event

Saturday 9th May, from 1pm

We've been open for a short while now, ironing out the bugs, moving books hither and thither and making the shop look beautiful. Now is the time to launch the Alligator's Mouth in style!

At 1pm on Sat 9th May, the day of the annual May Fair, we will be opening the bookshop with the obligatory ribbon cutting. Author/illustrator Chris Riddell will be the man brandishing the scissors. Chris
has been a great supporter of the shop, ever since the idea was first mooted. His books are known and loved by everyone here and it is fitting that he will be the one to do the honours. We are also delighted to announce that Axel Scheffler, Jacqueline Wilson, Jim Smith, Elizabeth Laird, Ian Beck, Sophy Henn and Smriti Prasadam-Halls will be visiting the shop on the day (see profiles below). Books will be available to buy and have signed. More authors and illustrators are to be confirmed nearer the time. No need to book; just turn up and we will be very happy to see you.

There will also be face-painting, balloon modelling, bespoke stories from the typewriter of Petit Prance (written at your suggestion), goody-bags and cake.

As our launch day will coincide with the Richmond May Fair, we are glad to be taking part in a day that celebrates the best of Richmond town and our local church, St Mary Magdalene's. Thank you to everyone who has supported us.

We hope to see you there,
