Spotting Depression with a Smart App

Depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. Over 300 million people are affected, but few actually seek treatment, and many more go undiagnosed. A non-invasive way of monitoring mental health through your smart phone may be key to a proper diagnosis and path to recovery.

Swimming Robots for Unstructured Places

Inspired by the flagella that bacteria use to propel themselves, KU researchers have developed a swimming robot with the potential to effectively navigate the ocean world, and other complex, underwater environments.

Recovering more Oil from Quantum Predictions

A new way to predict how oil and water interact with reservoir rock at the quantum level could improve productivity of the UAE’s oil wells and help Abu Dhabi reach its goal of increasing oil recovery rates to 70%, says a Khalifa University expert.

Giving Robots ‘Skin’ for Touch

Giving robots a sense of touch is a real engineering challenge. A team of KU researchers are discovering how to program robots with the same sensor system human hands have, with a robotic ‘skin’, called ELECTROSKIN.

KU students take first, second and third at Undergraduate Research Competition

An exoskeleton hand that provides game-based hand rehabilitation to individuals with diminished hand mobility; a low-cost, eco-friendly adsorbent that removes hydrogen sulfide from natural gas efficiently; and a remote controlled dicycle, beat out the competition.
