From Fr Michael

Before we rush and get carried away with what we might be doing for Christmas this year, there is the season of Advent.  With the news being so focussed on one thing, we might be in danger of missing out this important time in the life of the Church; a time of waiting in joyful hope for the coming of the Saviour.

Next weekend, Nigel and Laura will be introducing a really wonderful parish project called 'Beyond Adversity'.  After the really successful recording of Mark's Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles, they have turned their attention to a kind of Advent Calendar.  'Beyond Adversity' will be a way of reflecting on the many ways we have overcome obstacles and hurdles over 2020 and bring some of that to the Lord in prayer.

I am very excited for the fruits of 'Beyond Adversity'.  But it will need your help.  Listen out next week for more information and how you can be a part of this great project.

God bless and pray for me!

Fr Michael
Increased Capacity

We have managed to increase our capacity so that we can welcome more people safely into our church.  As a result, there are a few changes you need to know about:

When you arrive - use the NHS app for track and trace

The Hospitality Team will take you to your seat (do not find your own seat)

Remain kneeling or stand in your place for Holy Communion

At the end of Holy Mass the Hospitality Team will lead you out a row at a time

Readings for 18th October
Holy Souls

Parish Notices

Month of November
It is hard to believe that October is almost over.  As we head towards November, our thoughts and prayers traditionally turn to those who have died.  In the past we had Holy Souls envelopes which were placed in the Holy Souls Box as our focus for prayer during this month.  With so many not ready to come to Holy Mass and our reduced capacity at the moment, we have had to find different ways of keep this traditional custom.  On the link above (and here) there is a printable leaflet where you can record the names of deceased family and friends that you wish to pray for especially over November.  Send them to the Presbytery or bring them to church when you come, and these will be added to the Holy Souls box which will be positioned by the altar as a focus for our prayer.  As in the past, any money included with these envelopes will be used to celebrate Holy Mass for the Holy Souls throughout the year.

Rosary
During the month of October, the Rosary will be prayed in church on Friday evenings at 6.30 p.m.  You are more than welcome to come and pray the Rosary together or join in via the livestream.

Monica Prayers
Praying for our families is returning on Wednesdays at 2.00 p.m. on livestream for the moment with a view to praying these prayers in church in the coming months.

200 Club
A big thank you from Mike to all who have paid.  Also, a big plea to encourage those who haven't paid their subscription to do so as soon as possible please.  Just drop a cheque (payable to St Teresa's) for £12 or cash with you name through the presbytery letter box or hand in when you come to Holy Mass.

Becoming Catholic and Growing in Faith
I am hoping to start a group in November for those who have been thinking and praying about becoming Catholic.  I also want to extend the invitation to all parishioners who might want to use this as an opportunity to deepen their own knowledge of our Catholic faith. There will be a meeting on 26th October at 7.00 p.m. for those who are interested.  This will be online and we can discuss the practical details of how we will meet, the steps to becoming Catholic. Sign up here.

Facebook Messages
Our Facebook Page is edited by a number of parishioners who use it for live-streaming times of prayer, for posting children's liturgy, and making sure things work - like the sound! This means that messages for sent through the Facebook Messenger App and comments on posts can be read by the wider team. It is good to have a team of people who use our social media platforms as a good safeguarding practice, however, it does mean that messages may be read by members of that team. If you need to speak to me directly, please phone or use the email address.

Shoebox Appeal
Please click and read the link for more information on how we will be supporting the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal.  As with most things, it will be different but we can still support this worthwhile project.

Broken Jewellery
If you have any broken jewellery or jewellery you no longer want or need, please consider donating it to the parish.  For example, single earring, cufflinks, rings with missing stones etc. We are able to sell them to help with our own fundraising.  Recently, we sold some broken odds and ends for over £100!  Just hand to Fr Michael in an envelope at Mass or push through the presbytery letterbox.

Red Mission Boxes
It is time to empty the red boxes which support the missionary work of the Church in other countries.  This something that needs to be done in a safe way.  If you can bring your red box to church, they will be left and count.  If you are not able to come to church, please call Christina to make arrangements for a safe collection on 01782 643076 (please leave a message if there is no response).

Second Collections
There are a number of 'Second Collections' that have been missed due to the pandemic. At the back of church there will be a collection bag.  Every now and then, this will be divided by the various causes, including our own Mission and Development fund.  Any envelopes that are marked for a particular collection will be given directly to that cause.
