A Spring Evening of Classic and Jazz Favorites

The Fenton Community Orchestra (FCO) and Fenton Jazz Orchestra invite you to join them for their 5th Spring Concert Celebration.  The concert will take place at the Fenton High School Ruby Zima Auditorium on Friday, May, 1st at 7:30 p.m.  Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated.   Fenton High School is located at 3200 W. Shiawassee Ave. Fenton, MI 48430.

The FCO and Fenton Jazz Orchestra will perform a variety of classical works and jazz standards under the baton of Conductor Mr. Andrew Perkins.  FCO will perform well known works like Copland’s Hoe-Down from Rodeo, Stravinsky’s Berceuse and Finale from The Firebird Suite, and Saint-Saens’ Royal March of the Lions from the Carnival of the Animals.  The Fenton Jazz Orchestra will have your foot tapping to favorites like Limbo Jazz by Duke Ellington, Doozy by Benny Carter, and Boplicity by Miles Davis.

“75 orchestra and 25 jazz musicians performed on stage to more than 500 audience members last December,” said, FCO Executive Director Jennifer Fleck.  “We are looking forward to another fantastic evening of live music to share with our community on May 1.  In addition, we are working with the Fenton High School Chapter of the Key Club to open our Dress Rehearsal on Thursday, April 30 to area senior citizen groups.  Our 5th season as an orchestra has been wonderfully full.”

This activity is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Together, We can Build a Community Rich in Music and Culture (E.S.)

An ensemble of 28 FCO musicians led by Director Andrew Perkins visited three Fenton area elementary schools on April 17 for an interactive and educational performance attended by 1,400 students.

“It’s a win-win situation,” said Andrew Perkins, Music Director for the FCO and Fenton Schools Band Program.  “The reciprocal relationship between the FCO and the Fe
nton Schools increases the musical opportunities for our students and members.”

The Fenton Community Orchestra provides an enjoyable place where musicians of all ages learn & play music with teamwork and respect.

We are creating wonderful music for our community to enjoy and having great fun in the process.

Amateur or professional musicinas, audience members, volunteers and financial supporters are all needed to support this worth community program.

The FCO is under the musical direction of Mr. Andrew Perkins, Director of Bands for Fenton Area Public Schools and is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors.  The board meets every second Tuesday of the month and the Orchestra rehearses in the Fenton High School Band Room  Thursday nights ( 6:30-8:30pm) September through May.

The FCO is a community supported orchestra and donations are tax deductible as we are a 501c3 non-profit organization.
