Merry Christmas!

This edition of What's on at Hobbos is the final one for 2016. From all the staff at HBYC we would like to wish you and your families a safe and happy Christmas. For those of you going offshore racing, we wish you luck. You'll hear from us again in the new year.
Christmas / New Year's Opening Hours

Office Hours
Closed from 23 December to 3 January
Yard Hours
Closed from 23 December to 9 January
Bar Hours
Closed from 25 December to 5 January (except for NYE 31st December)
Shortened Bar Hours
Friday 5 January – 5-8pm
Saturday 6 January – 12-6pm
Sunday 7 January – 12-6pm
Normal Summer Bar Hours resume from Wednesday 11 January
Crewing at HBYC

Crew Notice – All crew on boats need to be a member if they are sailing regularly. If you have crew that are not then they need to buy a day pass, each person is allowed 12 Day Passes and they cost $15. Making sure the crew do this is the responsibility of boat owners, and needs to be adhered to. This is an insurance requirement.
Designated Smoking Areas

Please be reminded that the club has a number of designated smoking areas. Ashtrays are provided, please use them.
1.  Outside the front entrance of the building (on the entry footpath, not just outside the door)
2. Beginning of the lockers, near the entry to the driveway.
3. A new spot - Far corner of the outside seating area near the road. It is around to the left when facing the street. Please follow the signs.
Commodore's Cup
Saturday 17 December

Come for the racing, stay for the deluxe hamburgers!
In honour of all past (and present) Commodore's of the club, the Commodore's Cup will be held on Saturday 17 December.
1400hrs - Commodore's Cup - Club Course - Spinnaker Race.
1405 - John Allen Past Commodore's Cup - Manager's Cup Club Course - Non-Spinnaker Race
Cock of the Bay
26 December

The Cock of the Bay is just around the corner. If you haven't entered yet, now is the time.

Petersville Regatta
27-30 December

After a successful comeback last year the Petersville Regatta is on once again at BYS.
There will be limited free berthing available for the duration of the regatta.
With close to 30 entries already we expect this to be hotly contested regatta with family entertainment scheduled every night. For more information or to register visit

If you have booked your tickets, please come and collect them from the office, or let us know if you would like them posted to you. You will need them for entry on the night.

Farewell Sarah and Hello Mel!

A big thank you to Sarah Minty our Bar Manager/Functions Coordinator who is finishing up at the end of December. Sarah has been instrumental in keeping the bar and functions running over the past 7 months. Her hard work and dedication is much appreciated and we wish her all the best with her law career and future endeavours.  We welcome Mel Airns to the team, who will be taking over from Sarah in January 2017. Mel has been doing a handover throughout December and has a solid hospitality background with her most recent position being at KPMG as an Event’s Coordinator. Please make Mel feel welcome.

Festival of Sails
21 - 27 January 2017

Festival of Sails, the largest regatta in the Southern Hemisphere, is looking for volunteers. Whether you want to get involved on the water or keep your feet dry, there are spots available.
