As part of our Happy Hour celebration of the Golden Groper in the clubrooms this Tuesday, the club is giving beer drinkers free beer. This Happy Hour is the one not to be missed as we carry on and on about the Gropers meet....
Leisurepark 400/800 deadline
Captain Sue needs your entries for the 400m/800m meet at Leisurepark now. Literally. Entries close at 6pm tonight, Sunday 24 July. Send your entry to email@example.com now.
As pointed out elsewhere, Leisurepark Masters have had the best afterswim pumpkin soup in previous years. More importantly, their 25m indoor pool is always a sensible temperature, so this is a good meet to get that fast time because turns.
In case you weren't there, we won the Golden Groper in a tight contest with Mandurah Club who were almost as loud as we were. Highlights included some astonishing fast swimming, especially in the Dash For Cash, some astonishingly random commentary from Elena and Sal as well as some inspiring swimming by some of the competitors who were not as fast.
Organisation and volunteers were first class.
One question though - wasn't the Golden Groper once actually golden?
Gold Coast Masters Nationals
Its probably worth thinking about booking flights if you want to swim in the 2017 Nationals.
Next year's National Champs are on the Gold Coast from 8 to 11 March. If you are thinking of going, please email Captain Sue now, so she can start worrying about the logistics. As Sue writes: The Nationals run from 8 to 11 March on the Gold Coast.
If you are thinking about attending can you please let me know? It will fall right at the end of the Open Water season and we need to know how many of our swimmers will need to be focussing on sprinting so that our coaches can factor it into the annual plan.
You can also let me know if you will require accommodation and I will look at booking that in the coming months.
A relatively normal week for training with free beer after our Tuesday session.
Training times this week are: Tuesday 7pm to 7.45pm Thursday 7pm to 8pm Friday 9.30am to 10.30am
Please try to get to sessions 15 mins early for land drills and so the coach can run through the program with you before start time. We do land drills to warm up the muscles before we hit the water. If you want some tips, ask someone who is swinging arms or legs, etc.
The informal Saturday session is back on at HBF with Theresa organising Endurance 1000 quality time trials: Saturday 12.30pm to 2ish
And also the informal Barnacles session at Claremont Pool, the one near the Showgrounds: Sunday 3.30pm start Early warning - the committee are considering introducing an organised training session at HBF Stadium on weekends. We will soon send out a survey asking for preferable times.
