"Computers make excellent and efficient servants, but I have no wish to serve under them."
"Computers make excellent and efficient servants, but I have no wish to serve under them."

The quote above is attributed to Spock from the original Star Trek Series.

When looking at the churn that occurs on some projects some people can feel they are serving computers rather than the opposite. Because there is no forward thinking or planning, the project becomes a scramble for the answer that will work in the remaining time we have. Instead of making the machines serve the purposes of the project, the people are serving the machines in an effort to make them work.  Ultimately the machines do the work, but it is a long and avoidable struggle to get there.

If you or your organization is interested in a methodology that makes the machines serve us and not the opposite, send us an email or give us a call.

Comunication Issues Solved
Development in one city and Quality Assurance in another with a language issue and conflict.  Sound familiar?  Many people have these issues when either Development or Quality Assurance is offshored.  There is a lack of communication; little time at either end of the day to communicate and frequent misunderstandings as to roles or what is being said.

The difference here was the cities were only about 3 hours apart by car, less than an hour by airplane and the languages were French and English.  Clearly an internal Canadian issue.

However, the problems were similar to many others:
  • Development felt that Quality Assurance was blocking items.
  • Quality Assurance felt ignored.
The solution was to do the following:
  1. Get the two groups (or subsets of them) into the same room.
  2. Understand the issues (in case there were any underlying ones that we did not know about).
  3. Resolve the issues.
  4. Set up a communication process and expectation.
We have not heard anything negative since.  Visit our Consulting Page to learn more.
