“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago."
Are you benefiting from work done by someone in the past?
Does your project add value to the company ?
Can you make it beneficial?
The quote came from 'Of Permanent Value: The Story of Warren Buffett' by Andrew Kilpatrick, 2007. It is very applicable to QA and IT in general. We build upon the bases built by others. Tasks that used to be done by hand are now automated. But sometimes it seems that the current project has little or no interest in ongoing long term improvement. The focus is very short term. Some projects would rather just put up a temporary structure rather than build a permanent foundation. We all know what happens to systems that are built on impermanent foundations; they fall over. The same is true of Software. It falls over (or requires endless maintenance) if it is not built correctly. QA helps that foundation with its focus on the long term.
KWSQA just finished (last Friday) another successful conference. It was nice to see people who we have not seen for a year and to make some new acquaintances. NVP would like to thank the organisers and KWSQA for another good conference.
