Shows in Maine, New Jersey, and Maryland

After a wonderful summer of boating on beautiful Sebago Lake in Maine (and the Songo River, Brandy Pond, and Long Lake), the boat is out of the water and winterized. It's always so sad to have the season end, and always too soon! That's why, after three marvelous seasons on the lake, we've decided to sell the boat and buy a bigger, ocean-going boat that will take us places we've never been—including warm places in the winter. We're hoping to close the deal on the new boat within the next month, so look for me in Florida this winter. :) In the meantime, I have to play some gigs to pay for the new-to-me barge-o-fun.

It seems like it's been a long time since I've hit the road to play gigs. That's all going to change very soon. I'm excited to announce trips to New Jersey and Maryland in November (And I'll be in Wilmington, NC looking at a boat next week, so please send good tourist-ey ideas to me for that trip!).
I will be doing two shows in New Jersey with this Old Salt! Captain Kendall Morse!
The rumors are true, I'm getting a new (read: bigger) motor yacht on the ocean. My current boat, a 32' always-freshwater Carver is for sale and looking for a new owner
Back to the gigs! First notable gig is this Friday night, October 19 at Lenny's in Westbrook, Maine. I love playing Lenny's. If you've never taken in a show there and you live in the area, you owe it to yourself to check it out (even if it's only to try the roasted brussels sprouts, which are positively decadent). I play at 7, but get there early. Tables fill quickly, so "standing room only" is sort of "standard operating procedure!"

The next notable gig is in northern New Jersey. I'm taking my good friend, Captain Kendall Morse, on the road for two shows. The first is a house concert on Friday, November 2 in the Highland Lakes region (near Vernon, NJ). I'm told there are only a few unsold seats left at this point, so if you'd like to join us, contact Ron at hgs@warwick.net / (973) 670-8307 to inquire about availability and for directions.

The very next evening, Kendall and I will be in Fair Lawn, NJ at the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club. The Hurdy Gurdy is one of my favorite venues. Last time I was there was with the Dave Rowe Trio. I love that stage!
Sunday, November 11, I will be back on the road solo, performing in the Washington DC area for a special concert for the World Folk Music Association. The show will be in Bethesda, MD at Positano Ristorante Italiano. Tickets are available here

Looking ahead, I'll be back at Lenny's on the day after Thanksgiving, and my annual holiday concerts with Denny Breau and Phil House will be Dec. 8 in Farmington, ME and Dec. 15 in Auburn, ME. All those details can be found, of course, on my website calendar

So, at this point, you're probably wondering what kind of boat I'm getting to replace my beloved Carver. Stacey and I have been shopping for our next boat for about a year now. We started just by kicking around marinas and exploring the depths of Craigslist, but we ultimately decided that we wanted some expert influence in this purchase. We want to buy a boat that could take us on the Great Loop, so getting the right craft is important. After putting the word out on message boards looking for a boat-buyer's broker, we ended up selecting Ryan Miller at Latitude Yacht Brokerage in Newport, RI to represent us. Ryan has been great, helping us make contacts and being a well-needed voice of reason when our enthusiasm for the wrong boat(s) would get the better of us (shiny things do impress).

The boat we are looking at in North Carolina is a 1987 Bayliner 3870 (pictured below). We've already put an offer in on it, and the sale is pending sea trial and vessel survey (which is what we're going down for later this month). Wish us luck! I couldn't be more excited about this boat, and if we buy it, I'll be asking for gig recommendations in Florida sooner than later, so if you have a favorite warm-weather music spot down there, please let me know about it.

Hope to see you at a gig very soon!

-Dave
P.S. If you find yourself in the Portland, Maine area, don't forget to join me at my "house gig," Bull Feeney's. I'm there most Wednesday and Saturday nights when I am not on the road.
