Memorial Day is a day of remembrance to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Barbecues are fun, family get-togethers are important, but don't lose sight of the reason we assemble this weekend. Remember….

Wait! What? Dave's Leaving Maine for a Year?

Yes, my friends. Stacey and I are about to embark upon a year-long voyage on Stinkpot. For you Facebook types, we have a blog page dedicated to the journey (and some other adventures as well). Give it a like and follow along with our journey. Also, in preparation for this, I need your help building a schedule of gigs along the way. Details on that are below, so keep reading and chime in when you get there. :)

1. A little "housekeeping" before we set off. Our Portland, Maine home is going to be rented out for the duration of the trip. If you, or someone you know, is looking for a house for a year in the area, drop me an email, and we'll set you up.

2. Before I leave Maine, I have exactly two house concerts to do on consecutive nights. The first is Friday, May 31 in Monmouth; the second is Saturday, June 1 in South Portland. I'd love to see as many folks as possible before I leave, so do try to come to one or the other if you're in Maine. Both of these concerts are open to anyone to attend. Simply contact the hosts and reserve your seats. Here are the details:

House Concert in Monmouth, ME
Friday, May 31⋅6:30 – 9:00pm
For info/directions, email Leslie at Meet ‘n seat 6:30-7, concert starts at 7. BYOB. Snacks will be offered.

House Concert in South Portland, Maine
Saturday, June 1⋅6:00 – 9:00pm
Email or call Deborah for information, directions, reservations, and secret knock: or 207-838-8126.

3. My final show before shoving off is in Sykesville, Maryland at Baldwin's Station, the very place I recorded my live CD. The show will be Thursday, June 6. Tickets are available by calling 410-795-1041. The boat is in the Baltimore area, so this show is our big send-off. Please be a part of this momentous occasion!

Our Chariot awaits! Stinkpot is resting comfortably in Sparrows Point, MD at Young's Boat Yard. When we arrive, she gets cleaned up and ready for the Great Loop. We've been planning this trip for a long time, and despite that there's so much left to do. I don't think we'll ever truly be "ready." At some point we'll have to cast off lines, throw caution to the wind, and have at it. We are excited through the trepidation and completely in denial about what we are about to undertake, but that's half the fun.
Another exciting development is that it seems I will be recording regular updates on our journey that will air on the brand new online streaming sensation known as Folk Music Notebook. Tune in online, use their Android or iOS apps, or even listen with your Alexa-enabled Amazon devices. So many developments, and so much to get done in so little time.

Which brings me to how you can help. They say "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." I'm about to cruise 6,100 miles on a boat. Since I'll be on a boat, taking a step might be a moist proposition. So, I'm asking your help to fill my calendar with great performance opportunities to help defray the costs of the trip. Some people save money for years to do things like this. We had no such foresight (or ability). We intend to just continue what we do as we proceed. The only trouble is, I've never been to most of the places we are going, so in order to book gigs there, I need help on the ground. There is a new page on dedicated to the Great Loop trip where you can submit venue/gig suggestions. If you know the perfect place for me to play, sail on over and let us know about it! And it always helps if you also contact the bookers yourself and say you'd like to hear me at their place. I appreciate whatever help you can give. Oh, and if you have a big living room (or boat) and want to entertain presenting a house concert when I'm coming through your area, you can submit that as well. It can be a boatload of fun to present a show in your home!

Thanks for all your support of my music and adventures,

P.S. The mailing address below is no longer active. MailChimp, the company that handles these email newsletters, will not allow me to not have an address (one of the difficulties of the boating life), so it is a place-holder until I get back from the Great Loop and get a new PO box. If you need to get in touch with me, email, Facebook Message, text or call 207-619-3655. With apologies to the USPS for being so difficult….
