Captain Rowe's Update from the High Seas!

Last time I reached out to you was last May or so, and my firstmate, Stacey, and I were just about to embark upon a year-long voyage to cruise America's Great Loop aboard M/V Stinkpot. Since then, we've cruised from Baltimore Harbor in Maryland, up to New York City where we spent a night in an anchorage near the Statue of Liberty. We then cruised up the Hudson River; through half the Erie Canal; up the Oswego River; across Lake Ontario; through the Trent-Severn Waterway to Lake Huron's Georgian Bay and North Channel (unbelievably beautiful!) in Canada; down to Mackinac Island (a very cool place everyone should visit—I can't overstate this); across Lake Michigan to its western shore; down the length of Lake Michigan to Chicago where we tried to eat all of the Chicago-style pizza (which is nothing like pizza, but is nonetheless delicious!); through the Chicago, Illinois, Mississippi (only about 200 miles of it), and Ohio (about 50 miles) Rivers to Paducah, Kentucky where we began following the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile Bay; took a right and visited New Orleans for a month, then turned around and headed back to Pensacola, Florida where we now have been for another month so that I could play at the 30A Songwriters Festival in Destin in mid-January.
Of course, like all best-laid plans, we sat still in Pensacola for a week longer than we intended. Surprise! We were selected to travel to Los Angeles as finalists on America's Funniest Home Videos. You can see us posing with the show's host, Alfonso Ribeiro after the conclusion of the taping in the photo to the left.
By this time, I suppose you are all curious about the video that got us a trip to the left coast, and you probably want me to spill the beans about how it all came out. You can see the video now on our boating Facebook page, but I can't tell you anything about the show until it airs, so set your DVR to record America's Funniest Videos on Sunday, March 29 at 7PM eastern time, which is currently the tentative-but-pretty-firm airdate for the episode. If that changes, we'll put the word out first on our Facebook page, so be sure to "LIKE" the page so you get our updates. Of course, I'll also put the date or any changes to it on my website gig schedule.

Speaking of concerts on the calendar, I have one coming up in the Port Charlotte/Fort Myers area on Sunday, February 16. This show will be sponsored by the World Folk Music Association in their very first official event in the Sunshine State.

Later in the spring I will be doing another WFMA event in Alexandria, Virginia on May 9

I would love to sit here and type out all the adventures that Stacey and I have enjoyed over the last eight (plus) months, but typing it all out would be both tedious and pointless because, it is all documented! I have been doing regular audio updates on Folk Music Notebook. To date, Ron Olesko and I have recorded over forty episodes of Folk on the Water. All of the episodes are archived on the Great Loop page on my website. To listen LIVE, tune into Folk Music Notebook using one of their phone apps or the Alexa talent on your Amazon Echo. We always put out the word on our Facebook page on the days that they will air.

As I type this today, we are in Gulfport, Florida at the beautiful Boca Ciega Yacht Club which was kind enough to host us for a few days while we waited out some unsettled weather. We'll be casting off shortly to move to an anchorage near downtown St. Petersburg. The fun and adventure never stops! We hope to see you all along the way.

Keep in touch!

Dave
There is a new CD in the works of songs written during this trip. One of them is embedded in this timelapse video of Stinkpot transiting from Three Rivers Lake to Mobile, Alabama. The song is called Before the Time of Man.
