Hello from the boat!

I probably shouldn't rub it in, but nothing beats summer in Maine, and it's finally here! I'll get to talking about music and concerts in a moment, but first an update on my favorite hobby. My sturdy, 33-year-old Carver motor yacht has been in the water since a very chilly, rainy April 30th. She was scarcely in the water ten minutes when I was in the car going home to warm up. Since then we've logged about 450 nautical miles (about 518 miles) on Sebago Lake, and today, for the first time, ventured up the Songo River to Brandy Pond and Long Lake where we are at anchor right now as I type this. The nearly-full moon just rose over the trees, and I managed to snap this photo of it.

Relaxing at anchor with only the sound of the water gently lapping at the hull is one of my life's greatest pleasures...except for playing music, which of course is why I'm emailing you. I probably should tell you about it.

I have some wonderful shows coming up in addition to my weekly gigs at Bull Feeney's in Portland, ME (most Wednesdays and Saturdays) and Byrnes' Irish Pub in Brunswick, ME (most Thursdays). Because I can't be depended upon to do these shows EVERY week, please consult my schedule before making plans.

This Thursday, June 28, I will not be at Byrnes' however, so that I can play at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts in Lovell, ME, a lovely concert venue in a repurposed historic New England church building. Desserts will be served at intermission. I'm hoping there will be strawberry-rhubarb pie. It's my hands-down favorite. :)

Saturday, July 7 will be a busy day with three gigs, one of which is a wedding reception, another of which is Bull Feeney's (I'll be starting an hour late there because of the wedding), but the big gig of the day is Sails & Pales Beer and Music Event at Geary's Brewing. I'm very excited for this show. I'll be playing some of my saltier original tunes as well as plenty of traditional sea-going music! The event runs from noon to 7PM, and I'll be playing from 1 to 4PM (Geary’s Brewing Co., 38 Evergreen Drive, Portland, ME).
Wednesday, July 11 will be another special day. I'll be appearing in Plymouth, MA for Project Arts. The show will be on the lawn in front of the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce. It will be a concert co-bill with The Lindsays. The concert is being billed as an "Irish Night," so someone please bring me a plate of bangers and mash, or at the very least a nice corned beef sammich! More information on Project Arts' website

The rest of the summer will be mostly local shows including a couple of shows at Rick's Cafe in Naples, ME and a couple at Lenny's at Hawkes Plaza. Please check my schedule for all the updated information.

That's it for now. Have a wonderful summer, and please enjoy this gratuitous sunset picture from the boat. :)

-Dave
