SACHS Brand Ambassador Craig Lowndes has claimed his sixth Bathurst 1000, cementing his place as one of the all-time greats of Australian motorsport.
Sharing driving duties with Steven Richards, who claimed his fourth career Great Race crown, the pair were front runners throughout the race, and skipped away from the field after a late-race safety car appearance.
The pair started the race from 15th position, after rain interrupted the sole qualifying session of the event.
“It’s such a treat to be able to win my sixth Bathurst 1000,” said Lowndes.
“It really is a team effort and it’s all about strategy.
“It’s great to be back on the podium.
“That last lap I backed off and really enjoyed the lap for what it was, I could see the crowd going wild across the top and saw their flags flying.
“It’s a great time for us and it’s great to get back on the podium and to be on the top step with Steven.
“It’s an honour to have our names on the Peter Brock Trophy. We worked pretty hard today, our car got better as the day went on which is what we needed.
“I think I’m pretty set for the year now after winning Bathurst.”
Over the past 11 seasons, Lowndes has depended exclusively on SACHS shock absorbers and clutches in his Triple Eight Race Engineering V8 Supercars, and has earned a total of 49 championship race wins.
In a total of 22 Bathurst 1000 starts, Lowndes now has 13 podium finishes to his credit, a new all-time record, while he also claimed victory in the 2014 Bathurst 12 Hour.
The result comes after SACHS products have won the past seven V8 Supercars Championships, and the past five team’s championships with Triple Eight.
For SACHS and parent company ZF, Lowndes’s victory is a massive boost for the brand locally.
“On behalf of ZF, we would like to congratulate Craig, Steven and all of the Red Bull Racing Australia team on their remarkable effort to win the Bathurst 1000 over the weekend,” said ZF Services Australia Managing Director Chris Adcock.
“Earlier this year Craig claimed his 100th career race victory, which has a fantastic synergy with 2015 being ZF’s 100th year.
“Craig is the perfect Brand Ambassador for SACHS, he is one of the most recognisable sports stars in Australia, and he actually relies on our products on the race track and on the road.
“Of course what we do here at ZF on the race track is use the latest technologies, and transfer that into the products we have for everyday passenger cars.
“We wish Craig and the team all the very best for the remaining rounds in the season.”
Not only does Lowndes depend on SACHS components in his Red Bull Racing Australia Holden Commodore, but the team's truck and transporter are fitted with shock absorbers from the wide SACHS' commercial vehicle range.
In the passenger car aftermarket, SACHS has a shock absorber solution for 95 percent of the cars in Australia, including European, American, Asian and locally produced models.
The partnership with Lowndes sees SACHS branding placed on the highly visible visor of his distinctive helmet, as well on his driving suit.
Locally, SACHS motorsport products are available through Triple Eight Race Engineering for the track, while the full range of SACHS shock absorbers and clutches for the road is available through ZF Services Australia, with further information available at www.zf.com/au.

ZF is a global leader in driveline and chassis technology as well as active and passive safety technology. The company, which acquired TRW Automotive on May 15, 2015, is now represented at about 230 locations in some 40 countries. The two companies, which were still independent in 2014, achieved a sales figure exceeding €30 billion with 134,000 employees. As in previous years, both companies have invested approximately 5 percent of their sales in Research and Development (recently €1.6 billion) in order to be successful with innovative products. ZF is one of the top three automotive suppliers worldwide.
ZF Services ensures that ZF systems expertise is carried forward consistently into the aftermarket. With integrated solutions and the entire ZF product portfolio, the business unit guarantees the performance and efficiency of vehicles throughout their lifecycle. Driveline and chassis technology by ZF is offered in the aftermarket business using the well-established product brands Sachs, Lemförder, Boge, ZF Lenksysteme, and ZF Parts. With its global service network and portfolio tailored to customer requirements, ZF Services has also become a popular partner in the non-automotive sector.
In 2015, the company will celebrate its centennial. Originally named Zahnradfabrik GmbH, ZF was founded in Friedrichshafen in 1915 by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH among others. In its early years, the company developed, tested, and manufactured aircraft transmissions. After 1919, the company's focus shifted to the automotive and commercial vehicle industry under Alfred Graf von Soden-Fraunhofen, the first general manager and later head of the company. In this sector, the company registered numerous patents for innovative transmission technology and established itself once and for all as a major technology supplier. The first location outside Europe was founded in Brazil in 1958, launching a globalization drive that still continues. In addition, ZF constantly expanded its range of expertise - also through acquisitions. In 1984, ZF acquired the majority share in Lemförder Metallwaren & Co. KG, a move which extended the product portfolio to include chassis technology. In 2001, ZF took over the former Mannesmann Sachs AG to strengthen its value added chain with driveline and chassis components. It adopted the current name of ZF Friedrichshafen AG in 1992. Today's product range includes driveline and chassis technology such as transmissions, driveline and chassis components, as well as complete axle systems and modules. ZF products are used in passenger cars, commercial vehicles, construction and agricultural machinery, rail vehicles, and marine applications. The company also focuses on the wind power and electronic components business. In addition, ZF Services represents the Group on the international aftermarket. In May 2015, ZF completed the acquisition of the U.S. automotive supplier TRW which had been previously announced in 2014.
The shareholders of ZF Friedrichshafen AG are the Zeppelin Foundation, administered by the City of Friedrichshafen, holding a share of 93.8 percent, and the Dr. Jürgen and Irmgard Ulderup Foundation, Lemförde, with 6.2 percent. The "Motion and Mobility" slogan clearly states the company's core mission: Right from its foundation, ZF has developed and manufactured innovative products for all people around the globe who want to move things reliably, comfortably, and safely and experience the ultimate in efficient mobility. Quality, technological leadership, and innovative power have always defined the Group's identity – today as much as ever.
