Happy New Year!
It's 2022, and I hope that we are all cautiously optimistic! Now is the time to think of New Year's resolutions and thinking forward. While things seems to be heading in the wrong direction, lets look for ways we can all move forward. We have included a good luck soft pretzel recipe but there are lots of good luck food traditions from around the world. Whether you choose dumplings, lentils, collard greens cornbread, grapes, cake, pork, pomegranate, sauerkraut, oranges, tamales, fish, or one of your own traditions we wish you all luck!
We do need to stay vigilant about our safety. As of January 15th, the B Together policies come into effect. Proof of vaccination will be required for for certain indoor spaces in Boston. These spaces will include indoor dining, bars, nightclubs, indoor fitness, and indoor entertainment. All employees working in those spaces will be required to be vaccinated as well.
The Mayor has also announced that there will be vaccinations and boosters available at First Night at Copley Square (check our first night post below). Keep gatherings small, and test before gathering and/or keep masks on indoors. We are in another surge, so please stay safe.
We are still looking for volunteers to help with this year's West End Children's Festival! We are hopeful and optimistic that by summer, we will be able to have a festival, even if it has to be different. Please email us if you are interested in helping!
We hope you have had a wonderful Holiday season and wish you a Joyous and Healthy New Year!
We wish you light, happiness, peace, love and togetherness!
Be safe & be kind ❤️

It’s believed that eating a soft pretzel
brings good luck into the new year.

Chewy Soft Pretzels
Prep: 1 hour + rising Bake: 15 min
makes 1 dozen
Ingredients
1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1-1/2 cups warm water (110° to 115°)
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons salt
4 to 4-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
8 cups water
1/2 cup baking soda
1 large egg, lightly beaten
Optional toppings: Kosher salt, sesame seeds, poppy seeds and grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
- Dissolve yeast in warm water. In a large bowl, combine sugar, salt, yeast mixture and 2 cups flour; beat on medium speed until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a stiff dough.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Punch down dough; divide and shape into 12 balls. Roll each into a 22-in. rope; shape into a pretzel.
- Preheat oven to 425°. Place water and baking soda in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Place pretzels, 1 at a time, in boiling water for 30 seconds. Remove; drain on paper towels that have been lightly coated with cooking spray.
- Place on greased baking sheets. Brush with egg; top as desired. Bake until golden brown, 12-14 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks; serve warm.
