It's December!

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! And now it's December!
The last month of this year!  While these past few years have not like any other we've experienced, it's hard to believe another year has passed.  There have been a lot of ups and downs, but we hope there have been some bright moments!  We look to the next year with hope, for all of us!  What will you remember about 2021?  What do you hope for 2022?

We've added tree lightings, shows, holiday gatherings, a children's wish list, a little something sweet, and so much more!

We are looking for volunteers to help with this year's West End Children's Festival!  Please email us if you are interested in  helping!

Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa, Merry Christmas, & Happy New Year!
We wish you light, happiness, peace, love and togetherness!

Be safe & be kind ❤️

Our Annual Holiday Wish list

We are joining forces with Kathleen Flaherty at Bay Cove Human Services for the 3rd year to help fulfill some children's wish lists, because every child deserves a present for the holidays!

Bay Cove Human Services, located at 66 Canal Street helps parents who have been in recovery for over a year.  Most of them have their family intact and a few are in the process of reunification.  This agency is the primary source of where these families get their services; ie group therapy, individual counseling etc.  Kathleen Flaherty, Program Director of Family Support, has personally been working with families for six years and has seen many of the families on a weekly basis.  These parents have a solid foundation and are serious about their program.
They also help families with children who have been diagnosed with a disability; special needs, Autism etc.  For many of my families, Bay Cove is their lifeline but there are no funds to help with families with gifts.  Some of the kids may be between 12 and 15 but cognitively are much lower than their actual age.

Bay Cove's Family Support Program serves over 300 families but are closely involved with about 100, as some reach out more than others.  Kathleen and her staff know the situations these families are in and what resources they have outside of their agency.   Her program sends workers that go into homes, take them to appointments, etc., and the goal is to take some of the weight off of the families who are caring for their children at home; some of whom have significant issues.

The West End Community Center Wish List is based off the parents and families who don't have a lot of support from other programs or are incapable of advocating for themselves.

If you can, please help put some smiles on children's faces this holiday season!

How about some easy NO Cook Recipes!

Prosciutto Wrapped Pears

INGREDIENTS
2 red pears
8 slices prosciutto
1/2 cup baby arugula
4 Tablespoon pomegranate arils
1/2 teaspoons olive oil
black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS
Wash and dry pears, then slice them into 1/2 inch wedges (about 6-8 slices per pear). Cut away any pieces of the core from the slices.
Toss the arugula and pomegranate with olive oil and pepper in a small dish.
Cut each slice of prosciutto in half long ways and lay them flat on a cutting board or plate.
Lay a pear slice and a small bunch of the arugula mixture on top of one slice of prosciutto.
Carefully wrap the prosciutto around the arugula salad, just tight enough so that the salad doesn't easily fall out. Repeat until they're all wrapped and lay on a small serving platter.
Sprinkle with extra pepper and pomegranate arils if desired.

Honey Cranberry Walnut Cream Cheese Spread

INGREDIENTS
8oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
1/2 cup crushed walnuts
1/2 cup dried cranberries
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons orange zest

INSTRUCTIONS
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix together well. THAT’S IT! Transfer to a serving bowl and serve with crackers and/or pretzels.
