First Call for Health Grant Applications, Due June 30
Foundation for Community Health is calling for funding applications in our new Health Grants Program. Made possible by earnings from permanent endowments and limited historical gifts, the new Health Grants Program is another way we are working with our donors to advance healthy lives in western Montana. Grants will provide focused charitable support for health-related projects in four target areas: Diabetes, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation Services/Education and Skin Cancer/Melanoma.
Applications are open to organizations with a tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code, and where appropriate Section 170(c), as well as educational institutions that serve children, families and vulnerable people in western Montana. Additional eligibility guidelines, funding criteria and funds available can be accessed on the Foundation website at fchwmt.org. This grant cycle is open until June 30, 2016 at 3PM and applications can be downloaded or completed online at fchwmt.org.
We are thrilled to be launching our Health Grants program to increase the impact we and our partners have on the health of our western Montana communities. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Executive Director, Dorcie Dvarishkis or Operations and Programs Manager, Kira Huck at 406.926.2522 or email foundation@fchwmt.org.

Be Sun Smart This Summer!
Take charge of your skin's health this summer! Sun exposure is the primary cause of skin cancer, the most common form of cancer in the United States. Following these steps will set you and those you love well on the way to preventing skin cancer:
- Use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more and reapply often
- Wear a long-sleeved shirt, wide-brimmed hat and UV-rated sunglasses
- Check the UV index and avoid the mid-day sun
- Protect your skin when spending time on reflective surfaces such as sand or water
- Drink lots of water and use lotion after sun exposure
- Learn the signs of skin cancer and melanoma
The Foundation’s Be Sun Smart initiative is supported by the Steven Robinson Memorial Endowment, established by Steven’s family to promote skin cancer and melanoma awareness and prevention after Steven passed away from melanoma at the age of 35. For more information about the Be Sun Smart initiative, contact us at 406.926.2522 or visit fchwmt.org.

Thank You For Your Give Local Support!
Foundation for Community Health participated in the May 3-4, 2016 Give Local Missoula County event: an online giving day coordinated by Missoula Community Foundation that brings together donors and local nonprofit organizations. Despite the technical issues many donors experienced through the Give Local website, Give Local Missoula County helped to raise $230,000 for nonprofit organizations in our community. Through Give Local, Foundation donors contributed more than $700 to advance healthy lives in western Montana. We appreciate the dedication and diligence of our donors who "gave local" for us! Thank you!
We also want to offer some insight as to what happened on May 3. Give Local utilizes an online crowd-funding platform called Kimbia to process and track donations. Kimbia experienced a database overload that caused severe delays and diminished functionality, making it nearly impossible for individuals to donate online through the Give Local website. Kimbia has offered their sincere apologies and provided a multi-phase plan to address the issue in this press release,
If you have questions about your Give Local Missoula County experiences, contact us at 406.926.2522 or reach out to Missoula Community Foundation at 406.926.2846. Thank you again for your continuing support of our mission!
