TRR: Autonomy in Work Zones Needs Work

Researchers from Pennsylvania State University and Stony Brook University are developing a model, rules, and instructions for autonomous truck mounted attenuator (ATMA) system operators in order to reduce fatalities of DOT workers in work zone locations. Read the article published in TRR.


Submit a Letter of Interest for NCHRP Synthesis on Product Evaluation

An upcoming NCHRP synthesis will document current DOT practices, policies, tools, management techniques, and workflows with regard to the product evaluation process. Submit your letter of interest by January 4.

Special Freight Edition of TRR

Submit your paper to a special edition of TRB's Transportation Research Record journal that focuses on freight. The paper deadline has been extended to January 31. 

Nominate Panelists for Supplemental NCHRP Projects

TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program has identified eight new projects and a new synthesis project for the current fiscal year. Nominate panelists for these additional projects by December 15

Nominate Panelists for TCRP Projects

TRB's Transit Cooperative Research Program has announced FY 2022 research projects and will be filling seas for project oversight panels. Nominate individuals with expertise directly relevant to the research by February 4.  Please help identify women and minority candidates. 

U.S. DOT Job Opening: Chief Scientist - Highly Automated Systems Safety Center of Excellence 

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (OST-R) is seeking a GS-15 Chief Scientist for the Highly Automated Systems Safety Center of Excellence (HASS COE). The application deadline is November 26 and those interested may apply here.

  • The Bond Buyer: "A new chapter in the story of U.S. infrastructure is at hand," this feature reports, with a citation from TRB's Future Interstate consensus report.
  • Baker Donelson: This is a nice breakdown of the funding from the IIJA infrastructure bill, noting that TRB/National Academies is slated to review the effectiveness of the new Advanced Research Projects Agency-Infrastructure in three years.
