The five minutes that will change your week. Today, let's focus on where we find our security.
Find a quiet space. Sit up tall, and close your eyes. Set a timer for one to two minutes per movement so that you can be fully present (or increase the time if you want a longer experience).
First, pay attention to God.
Take slow, deep breaths. Focus on the spot that you feel the breath in your body.
- As you breathe in, think, "I'm loved by the Father"
- As you breathe out, think, "I'm secure in Jesus" (Jude 1:1)
Second, ponder your inner world.
Process the following with Jesus:
- Who do I want to love me?
- Where am I looking for security?
Third, prepare to love others.
Ask Jesus to help you answer the following:
- If I felt completely loved and safe with Jesus this week, how would my interactions change?
A closing prayer:
Jesus, hate and instability crowd my vision. And the fighting is too brutal. The division too great. The anger too overpowering. The suspension and cynicism too stifling. We're suffocating in a world that offers us oxygen masks filled with insufficient solutions. What do we do when despair or distraction seems to be our only option for survival?
Father, let the blazing glory of your love shine into my heart. May a garden flourish there as vibrant as Eden, where wild things are tamed into humble submission. Jesus, walk with me there. And may every holy footprint spring up into fruits of mercy, peace, and love. Let this gift of your love and security transform me and this world into something new — into something better.
Peace be with you until next week,
I'd love to connect with you on Facebook or Twitter.
If you're wondering, this is why I lead you to focus on your breath.
