Poulsbo Sons of Norway 2-44 - President's Message
Greetings and Happy Veterans Day, Happy Armistice Day, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!

For the past couple of weeks, while driving through the North Kitsap area, I have been amazed and overwhelmed.  The colors of fall this year are extraordinary.  Our autumn color palette is one of the best kept secrets of the Northwest.  Personally, I wish it would remain a secret—but the word is getting out and, boy, are we growing!   Living in the Puget Sound is really a blessing.  I hope you are all able to enjoy the colors before the winds come and blow the leaves to the ground. But that’s another tale for another day.
November will be a very busy and fun time here at the lodge.  If you want to volunteer to help prepare for one of the activities, you will have several opportunities.
First, at our lodge meeting on November 9th, we will elect the new Board of Directors who will lead our lodge in 2022.  We are fortunate to live in a country where each vote counts.  Come to the meeting and vote so you can have a say in how things will go next year.
Second, Jamie Green and her crew are working hard to provide a special Veterans Day celebration so we can properly honor all those who have worked so diligently to protect our country.  Come to the Marine Room at 5:30 pm on Friday, November 12th and show our military members the respect they so greatly deserve.  (If you were counting on Brennan’s brisket on the 12th, don’t despair--it has been postponed but you will have your chance to share in that yummy dinner in January.)
Next, the lodge will be closed while we all join family and friends in celebrating Thanksgiving on the 25th.  It’s great fun and sometimes a good reminder to think of all that we have to be thankful for.  Besides the obvious choice of family and friends, we are free—mostly because of our Veterans.  We are basically healthy—even with COVID.  We live in the land of plenty—even with empty shelves and delivery problems.  We can gather together to celebrate this land of plenty—even if we need masks and social distancing.  Many around the world aren’t so fortunate.  We are truly blessed!
Finally, there will be many opportunities to volunteer at the lodge this month with all the activities scheduled.  You may want to sign up to help bake for the Nordic Market and Taste of Norway or to help decorate the lodge on Sunday the 28th starting at 1:00 pm.  There will also be several gatherings for Seahawks game day potlucks in the Trolls’ Den and the bar is open every afternoon to meet up with friends for Happy Hour.  So, whether it’s for lodge volunteering or Trolls’ Den fun, come on down and enjoy the camaraderie!
Remember--it’s a New Dawn, it’s a New Day, it’s a New Life!
Fred være med deg til neste måned

News from the Building Association
As we approach the end of the year in doing the things that keep the lodge together and functioning, I just wanted to thank those on the Building Association board of directors; Marty Stickles, Brian “Slinky” Wolfe, CJ Hutchins, Roger Swenson, Colin Kuester, Ray Jones, Paul Nicholson and Brennan Webster.  Plus, our ex-officio officers, President Sherry White and Trustee Karen Zabinski who represent the lodge board.  The Building Association meets twice a month, plus on call duties as equipment fails or installation is required.  It takes teamwork and I’m glad to be a part of it.  Thank you all!
We recently have had repaired the walk-in refrigerator and freezer from what turns out to be significant leaks in the refrigerant.  Thanks to Roger Swenson who noticed the strange compressor noises and slightly higher temps, we were able to immediately schedule service, literally saving our bacon which would have gone to waste among other food stuffs in the freezer we keep for Friday night dinners and Rotary breakfasts.  We will create a windbreak around the Trolls’ Den deck to keep protected from the winter winds and to allow members to enjoy the deck heaters with some protection from the elements.  Two employee parking signs will be placed in the upper parking lot to reserve for our office manager and bartenders while they work at the lodge.
If you have questions or suggestions for the Building Association please let the office manager know and we will do our best to attend to them!  Thanks for your support!
Sincerely,
Paul Anunson
Building Association Chairman

October Lodge Meeting Minutes
Visste Du?
(Did you know?)
DID YOU KNOW:  In Norway, to go julebukk (pronounced yool-a-book) was a custom where young people wore strange outfits and carried a goat’s head on a stick.  They went from farm to farm scaring spirits.  Some in Norway still “go julebukk” the same way American children go trick-or-treating at Halloween.

Leikarringen Closet Floor Gets a Facelift

Tusen takk to Colin Kuester and Ray Jones of the Building Association for installing the new flooring in the Leikarringen closet.  The carpet was severely outdated, but failed to achieve that "cool retro" look.  So with flooring donated by Chris Doving, Colin and Ray got the job done in three swift hours: From pulling the carpet to closing the door on the dumpster!  Not bad, fellas!
