Dear Studio Families,

We are now beginning week three of distance learning at The Studio School and, while it seemed daunting and technologically challenging at first, the students and their teachers have settled into a balanced rhythm of learning, both individually and in small and larger groups. With the help of you, their parents, we have been able in a short and unsettling time in our lives to accomplish an educational program that has drawn upon the strengths of our relationships and our How-to-Learn Curriculum. The teachers and I, meeting twice a day, have also continued to modify and add curriculum that is developmentally appropriate, helping the younger students engage when ready and transcend the limitations of not being in the same physical space.
Personally, it has been a gift for me to be able to have more time and to devote my talents to working beyond crisis mode and concentrate on a deeper level on our ongoing teacher training and curriculum development. I continue to be impressed with how well our teachers and administrators are working together, supporting and mentoring each other, and how dedicated and caring they have been to their students and their families through this stressful time.
As we move through this week, I ask that we continue to work together to create a rhythm in your house that has a clear schedule for you and your family, giving your child the necessary structure to attend school, and having plenty of time to imagine and nourish your bodies and minds.
Our Studio Community, young and old, continues to show such compassion and care. Last Friday, at Gatherings, I led over 80 students and teachers and some parents through a 45-minute class to reflect on the week and the concept of while we shelter in place. I was so impressed to zoom in on how connected, kind, and gracious people were with each other and how we all breathed and settled as people imagined and drew. Bruno curled up in his bed and enjoyed being together in the quiet creativity. When he woke, here is what he wanted to share with everyone.
