In the midst of these challenging times, the end of June does not quite hold the same joy and freedom of “school is out” or “the lazy days of summer.” As a matter of fact, our world, both out there and with our family and friends, is upside down and filled with unknowns and many questions.
So, this is the beginning of informing you of the KNOWNS of summer. Our teachers have come in on staggered schedules, organized and cleaned their classrooms, and have invited students to come say hello and to pick up their work and belongings. Our housekeeping and building staff have been disinfecting and sanitizing our building, while we have been determining the many protocols for cleaning and social distancing. My key administrators and I have walked the building with our contractor to determine where and how we will open up areas to make rooms more spacious and install additional handwashing stations.
Over the last few months, some board members, administrators, and myself have taken dozens of workshops about COVID and all the many aspects of operating school. We continue to meet as a “core” task force daily, studying all the information and imagining the many possibilities. Here is a KNOWN--we are now ready to expand our task force and invite you to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org
, if you have an interest or skill that will enable us to make the best plan to meet the needs of our school.
Ms. Mabey, Ms. Silver, and I have been meeting for the last several months, and continue to evaluate this past school year, both in the building and on Zoom. With the experiences we have had, we are now creating and designing an educational program that will continue to deliver an excellent and exciting curriculum for all ages. The many factors include: class composition, teacher training and placement, areas of curriculum with instruction that are safe for all when in the building and those which work best on Zoom, and schedules that encompass the health, safety, and welfare of our children and their families, as well as our teachers and staff.
So, here is another KNOWN--we will be ready in September with a hybrid program that will be the best and safest educational program we can provide in the midst of all the unknowns due to the COVID pandemic. The challenges we will face in the 2020-2021 school year will be met with the same ability to design and implement a thoughtful, creative, and successful plan as we did this year.
Seeing how we came together as a community on every level over the last trimester, while managing the health and extreme stress of our lives, has been life affirming and a model of hope and resilience for our children. Here at Studio, we have experienced what our educational community so beautifully values, expresses, and demonstrates.
Thank you to each and every member for reaching out, your contributions, your questions, your sharing, and for your gratitude. It has meant the world to my staff and me. Please stay in touch and know we are here to guide you regarding your children’s well-being, as the summer progresses.
