We have two outstanding speakers presenting, Alex Warren, in-house teacher trainer for National Geographic Learning and Ellen Setterfield, young learner product marketing executive for National Geographic Learning.

Session 1
Teaching 21st Century Values in the YL Classroom

Nowadays the English language classroom is about more than just teaching a new language and the associated skills. It’s also about developing their 21st century skills, introducing them to the world and preparing them for the notion of global citizenship. And a big part of that is highlighting and nurturing the values which will help them on an everyday as well as global level. As such teachers are a moral compass for their learners as much as they are a teacher in the traditional sense. Using examples from National Geographic Learning’s Look series for young learners, in this session, we’ll explore why teaching values in the English language classroom is so important, what values we might consider the most important to nurture, and how exactly we can incorporate this into our teaching, on top of everything else we have to do.

Session 2
Perfect Projects: Setting yourself up for success

Projects! Love it or hate it, project work is an important part of teaching young learners. But why is it so important, and how can we make sure our learners get the most out of the experience? In this session we’ll use examples from National Geographic Learning’s Our World, Second Edition to explore the many benefits of projects, discuss what makes a good project, and share some helpful practical tips to ensure project success!
