Activities by MA-C members

It was a special month for MatchingArts Collective: ‘Sonatine in Blue’ by Daan van den Hurk and ‘Lullablues' by Anne-Maartje Lemereis were performed in China by Henry Kelder, and three new pieces by Mari-anne Hof were premiered by Daan van den Hurk in Het Muzieklokaal in Utrecht!
In this newsletter we will show you the newest publications, the events in February and we have a "Call for Scores" to contribute to a collective piano etude album!
Are you, or do you know a musician or composer without a MA-Collective profile? Register here or tell your friend about our collective. It's free!

Call for scores

A few months ago Edition MatchingArts started to gather newly written etudes to form an etude album for piano education.
A number of etudes have been written already, as you can see in the Featured compositions section above.

In the end we want to bundle all the etudes in the album, and to make a substantial one, we would like to include more etudes. Herewith an open invitation to all composers to send in pieces. The goal audience are piano pupils from 12 years and older, with a level comparable to the 25 etudes op. 100 by Friedrich Burgmüller or op. 45, 46 by Stephen Heller, but in a contemporary style. Popular styles or influences, like jazz and pop, are possible, but also more contemporary and everything in between.
Important is that every etude has his own technical difficulty, and that the etudes are playable for the intended young performers.

If you are interested or have any questions, please don't hesitate to send an email to daan@matchingarts.com.
Intermezzo
Every month we'll put one of the MatchingArts members in the spotlight and tell you something about them.

Intermezzo with Bart Berman Demodokos
Demodokos is the name of the bard (poet and singer) in Homer’s Odyssey. Bart Berman studied Classical Philology (Latin and ancient Greek) and Classical Guitar. Because of this combination of music and language he added Demodokos to his name. As a child Bart got inspired to compose by Bartók’s "For Children" which he played at the piano. As an adult he started composing again, this time inspired by Dutch, Latin and Yiddish poems.
Barts composition "Meyerke" (audio clip in link) was recently published by Edition MatchingArts. This work for classical guitar is written as a tribute to the Jewish tradition. Bart used the theme of a Yiddish song that tells a story about a father who educates his son in his tradition – "Meyerke, my son, do you know who you are?"
Visit Bart's website for more information.

On the 31st of January, MA-C member Daan van den Hurk performed a very special concert at Het Muzieklokaal in Utrecht. Daan's program consisted mainly of works by living composers like Joep Franssens and Daan van den Hurk himself. What made the concert even more special was the world premiere of new works by Mari-anne Hof, who wrote short piano pieces to three poems written and narrated Mary Heylema. "Schapen", "Reizigersadvies" and "Anders" will soon be available in our webshop.

09-10: Chisinau - Colegiul de Muzika "Stefan Neaga" - Chisinau, Moldava (Concert)
19: Romance Sentimentale - Utrecht, Netherlands (Concert)
20: Masterclass Svetozar Ivanov - Utrecht, Netherlands (Masterclass)
27: Púrpura Pansa Quartet - Amsterdam, Netherlands (Concert)
