1. The Fifth Annual General Meeting of the Spanish Chamber

Pretoria, Wednesday, 29th of May 2019

The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in South Africa hosted its Fifth Annual General Meeting at the Lord Charles Complex, Embassy of Spain. All the SCC members were invited. The Honourable Spanish Ambassador to South Africa, His Excellency Mr Carlos Fernandez-Arias, opened the session. The Deputy Chairman, Mr Siyabonga Mbanjwa, chaired the AGM in the absence of the outgoing Chairman, Mr Jose Minguillon. Mr Mbanjwa welcomed the members of the SCC who were present. The acting General Manager, Ms Manuela Sanchez Aragu presented the agenda of the Anual General Meeting.   

The 2018 audited Annual Financial Statements were presented by the Treasurer, Mr José María Segurola, which was approved by the assembly of members.

Eight of the Directors completed their tenure, leaving eight positions opened, including the role of Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Treasurer. 

On behalf of all SCC members, we take this opportuntiy of thanking all Directors for their contribution to the growth of the Spanish Chamber of Commmerce in South Africa. 

1.1 New Board of Directors

During the AGM - the process of electing a new Board was followed according to the Memorandum of Incorporation and a new Board was constituted. The pictures that follow hereunder depicts the new Board. We wish them all a succesful and exciting term of office.

Networking Lunch Reception after the AGM:
H.E Mr Carlos Fernandez-Arias welcomed all the Members of the Chamber to his Residence in Waterkloof for a lunch and networking reception. This networking opportunity gave our Members a chance to intearct with each other and enjoy the paella and drinks that were served.

The SCC welcomes this new dawn, with the inception of a new acting GM and a newly constituted Board.

The British Chamber and the Spanish Chamber collabortaed for a multi-chamber breakfast about "Increasing ten times margins in three years through scaling innovation: lessons learnt and practical tips" with Loic Potjes as our guest speaker.


Global Business Round table World Congress (GBR)

OR Tambo Conference Center, Wednesday, 27th of March 2019

A special thanks to the GBR group for hosting and inviting the SCC as one of the exhibitors at the 9th Annual GBR World Congress & Exhibition.

It was an empowering and unique congress at Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre, which targeted decision-makers, captains of industry, venture capitalists, private equity and SMMEs who drive economic growth.


Business Evening - Dawie Roodt

A big thank you to our guest speaker Dawie Roodt, Chief Economist of Efficient Group Ltd for the highly interesting presentation and his sharp analysis of the prospects of South Africa after the general elections on 8 May 2019. 

Great networking discussions occured amongst guests of the Belgian, Portuguese, Nordic and Spanish Chamber of Commerce in South Africa after the discussion.




Policy Dailogue & Skills Development 

Midrand, Thursday, 28th of March 2019

The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in South Africa invited all its members to the Policy Dialogue Event hosted by Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal. The event focused on the importance of inward investments and domestic skills development and transfer initiatives in partnership with foreign entities. 

La Liga Future Champions Tournament 2019

Soweto, Saturday, 30th of March 2019

The SCC invited its members in partnership with LaLiga in hosting the VIP section for the Future Champions International Tournament Final and Closing ceremony. The Spanish cuisine paella was served to the guests and the Spanish team RCD Espanyol. The final took place at the Nike Football Training Centre in Pimville. 


Business Talk - Mr Ted Blom

 Marley Building Systems, Thursday, 4th of July 2019

The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in South Africa in collaboration with the Belgian Chamber of Commerce for Southern Africa hosted "The Eskom Status Report and Discussion".

In light of Eskom's current status, this talk highlighted opportunities that members can venture into. Special word of thanks to Mr Ted Blom for his insight, Marley SA for sponsoring the venue and DLN Catering for the snacks.

1st & 3rd of October 2019 - The BizTalk

The Spanish Chamber of Commerce (SCC) in partnership with the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade & Industries will be hosting a Business Talk about the "Macro-economic perspective of SA and Southern Africa (where do we see growths and opportunities happening) With specific focus on potential incentives and investment protection". The BizTalk will be hosted in Johannesburg on the 1st of October and in Cape Town on the 3rd of October 2019.

17 October 2019 - Corporate Governance Knowledge/World Cafe : The importance of a governance framework and what the King Code hasn't told you - with Mr Terry Booysen of CGF Research.  

The Spanish Chamber will be hosting a Corporate Governance event in Johannesburg on the 17th of October 2019.

18 October 2019 - Golf Day 

The Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Italian-South African Chamber of Trade & Industries as well as the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in South Africa along with the Nordic South-African Business Association will be colloborating in hosting a Golf Day for all their members.

26 October 2019 - The Spanish Festival 

Check out our last year's  Spanish Festival (Paella Competition). Lots of fun was had! 

Venue details will be confirmed soon. This year the SCC is adding a few exciting changes, compared to the previous Spanish Festival and we are looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

22 November 2019 - Year-end Function Gala Dinner

The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in South Africa is bringing together key leaders of the Spanish-South African Business Community to celebrate the continuous  growth and success of Spanish companies in South Africa and vice versa.

The SCC Year End Function Gala Dinner is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with friends and fellow members while making new contacts.
